ROAD TOWN, TORTOLA, VI – The Virgin Islands Department of Disaster Management (DDM) is warning Virgin Islanders to continue making the necessary preparations as the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Seasons is heading into its peak.

Acting Director of the DDM, Mr Jasen Penn called on the territory to stay vigilant in its monitoring of conditions, as the coming months are expected to bring continuous weather disturbances to the Atlantic basin.

Prepare now! - Acting DDM Director Mr Penn

“As we speak at this point, we are nearing the peak of the season, which is September 10, so you can see we still have some weeks to go,” he said.

Mr. Penn added, “What we can foresee for the remainder of the season is that the waves are going to be coming off constantly going into September and October.”

Mr. Penn also encouraging residents to get prepared the best way they can, “If you haven’t prepared, now is your time,”

He also said persons should take steps to protect their property and review their home and business emergency plans, their emergency kits, go-bags, and insurance coverage.

Stay prepared & vigalent - Premier Fahie

Meanwhile, Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1), said on Government’s part, his administration has been working diligently to clear ghuts, activate hurricane plans, and do all in their power to protect the people of the VI.

“As usual, there are many hardworking public officers at the ministries and departments helping to prepare the BVI and protect us all, and I again wish to thank each and every one of them for the work they are doing and will continue to do,” he said.

He reminded persons to be vigilant and stay prepared given that when the upcoming Tropical Storm Grace passes over the VI, more systems may follow as the peak of the hurricane season approaches.

But thats life, it goes on..Out of our control. We just have to protect ourselves and stay safe.. Dont depend on Govt or DDM. They will fail us again...

I live in the town and the Adventist Church have a huge pile of dirt on the side of their building. It next to a ghut. Can someone from DDM or Town Planning make them remove it. If we get heavy rainfall and that dirt blocks the ghut, everyone around the in trouble. The amount of mud we will have to clean up is unfair especially those right next to them.

They have absolutely no way of knowing what will happen to storm activity. It could increase, it could get less.

Is there someone new there issuing these “ 60% chance of rain today “ bulletins?
