SETTING POINT, Anegada, VI- Following a much needed economic boost to the Sister Island, several business operators on Anegada have dubbed the 2021 Lobster Fest as the best since the passage of hurricanes Irma and Maria of 2017.

It is estimated that the amount of persons visiting the island for this year's Lobster Festival were in the thousands.

All hotels, villas and guest houses were completely booked out and over 150 vehicles were barged to the island as vehicle rentals were also all booked out.

Good support for restaurants & protocols

Ten restaurants participated in the BVI Tourist Board's promotion, where they sold various samples of lobster treats and, according to feedback from most of the restaurants, support was very good.

Establishments were high in praise for the cooperation of most patrons in adhering to the COVID-19 protocols.

"The talk out there is that Health [Unit] waiting for after Lobster Fest to announce a breakout, but we rebuke that. People were in their groups and we were very observant on how they complied. Thanks to all our people for taking precautions and doing the right thing, whether they were vaccinated or not," said one prominent restaurant owner.

Several legislators and government officials were spotted in the mix with patrons. Among them were Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration Honourable Vincent O. Wheatley (R9).

"Along with the Premier, we visited almost every establishment and we were very pleased with seeing the people over here in droves but, more than that, they were adhering to the Protocols for the most part," Hon Wheatley stated.

According to the Ninth District Representative, he was also pleased to see the movement of patrons from establishment to establishment.

"That meant that everyone had a reasonable share as persons were spending everywhere they stopped and that was key to note," Hon Wheatley added.

Barge delay

It was not totally a happy ending for everyone; however, as many persons who transported vehicles to the island were stranded for an extended time into last night.

"Everything was all well and good until it was time to get back with our cars on the barge. We were scheduled to leave at 6:00pm but never left until after 9:00pm. Two barges left early but we had to wait for one to return as they could not take us all at the same time. That bit needs to be fixed and we will be all good," one local person said.

Good they got stranded, and they should have been stranded for the whole night. They knew what time it was. Who want to get mad can get mad. The barge should have never came back for the 9 o’clock pick up until Monday morning. Either you sleep in your car or drive your car on the water back to Tortola.
