CHARLOTTE AMALIE, St. Thomas, USVI – Some 11 days after the November 4, 2014 elections polls in the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) for all senate seats, a new Governor and Delegate to the US Congress, the Board of Elections and two Referendum one dealing with senate terms and the other Medicinal Marijuana all votes have been counted, and the official certified results have been announced by the joint Board of Elections.

However, this year elections in the USVI were contiguous and nasty especially, in the Governor’s race the highest political prize in the American Territory.

The bitterness included some of the worst political ads in recent memory, name calling, accusation of vote stealing, court challenges and issues with voter machines breaking down.

Some of the heated words exchange included the Mapp camp accusing Dr. Christensen of doing nothing while in Congress for some 18 years and Christensen firing back accusing Mapp of corruption and victimization of persons when he served as Lieutenant Governor under former Governor Roy L. Schneider.

Elections Not over until November 18, 2014 runoff!

While the senate seats, Board of Elections, and the Delegate to Congress are confirmed, the people of the USVI must return to the polls on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 yet again for a runoff between Honourable Donna M. Christensen (D) the outgoing Delegate to the United States of America Congress and a former Lieutenant Governor Kenneth E. Mapp (I).

This runoff election will be a start over and votes received in the official results showed below become null and void.

Next Tuesday one of the two will replace outgoing governor John P. de Jongh Jr., who is term-limited and cannot run for re-election after two consecutive 4 year terms in office.

With all votes counted, and declared official here are the confirmed results for the new political class in the USVI once sworn into office in January 2015.

It's interesting that 56.54% voted for the use of medical marijuana.

You see how easy it is to hold a referendum on various things of interest to the general population? Just combine the referendum with normal elections and get it done! It's a simple process once everything is in place.

When was the last time we had a referendum on anything in the BVI?

How about a referendum on the airport, medical marijuana, gay marriages, an increase in penalties for the possession of illegal guns and curfews for children under 18?

These referendums could easily be rolled into the next election. Does anyone think our government actually wants to know what the voters think?
