ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) said that his government has finalised a five-year strategic staffing plan that will add over eighty vital positions across the Territory’s schools to strengthen support, accountability, and student success.

The Premier, while delivering his 2025 Territorial Address at Maria's by the Sea on May 20, 2025, said $2.5 million has also been allocated this year to support critical upgrades.

Premier Wheatley said, “This summer, schools across the Territory are scheduled to undergo essential works, including roof repairs, window and door installation, electrical upgrades, plumbing improvements, and the installation of backup generators.”

Safety enhancements and the installation of new security systems are also planned to ensure learning environments remain secure, resilient, and conducive to 21st-century learning.

The Premier said that the government has also invested in classroom resources including smartboards, computers, tablets, and robotics kits, fuelling a culture of creativity. “Nearly seventy educators have accessed advanced training, and our revised compensation framework positions Virgin Islands teachers competitively regionally, helping us attract and retain top talent,” he added.

A call to action!

Premier Wheatley made the call to action to educators in the Territory to begin shape the minds of future Virgin Islanders and encouraged them to obtain a copy of the National Sustainable Development Plan and utilise it as an educational tool to inform the next generation of leaders on how the government is securing their future by building a sustainable nation.

“This is a commitment I take very seriously,” the Premier said, adding, “I firmly believe that we have an obligation to honour the legacy of our forbearers by passing on the benefits they bestowed upon us: land ownership, education, an independent spirit, resilience, and all that characterises a Virgin Islander.”

Honourable Wheatley further detailed several accomplishments in education, including curriculum enhancements to align with STEAM Innovation, the Mathivated Project, strategic staffing plans to strengthen schools, 2.5 million dollars being allocated for critical upgrades, the Let's Teach VI Initiative and five new playgrounds introduced to schools in the Territory.

3 terms..Naah. nothing substantial to show, the same old talk. If election was this yr. I see VIP winning 3 seats...No more, I see Myron Party winning 5 Seats, I see old NDP winning 3 seats.. Next two, not sure, I see Myron as Premier and Marlon deputy. Sad. I think Sowande is best for Premier. Sowande need to take control, no water is a serious Issue, high prices, minimum wage..I still prefer Sowande as premier, sad Marlon NDP and VIP wont get enough seats to devour Myron NDP. Sad. Wish Sownade takes control, imagine a simple thing like a card printing machine immigration cannot get, sad, I am wondering if Immigration cannot send their stuff to print to License dept to their cards print..

A system needs to be put in place where parents are going to be held responsible for their children's terrible behaviour at school. There were brawls, not fights, but brawls at Bregado Flax last week and this has to stop. These teenagers are not acting like students. We have to pray for them, but most importantly we have to assist these children and parents who need help. A school campus is not the place to go and take out your vengeance on each other in front of other people's children that they send to school. I would say take it to the streets, but behaviour like this I do not condone no matter where it happens, but especially in school and during school hours. Father God says vengeance is his. He will repay. Put down the weapons and stop brawling. The RVIPF in VG doesn't have busy days. They need to walk through campus at least twice a day right now. That will make a difference.

Young men, Young women, whatever you are upset about and cannot control your temper over, please talk to someone you trust. Please pray and ask God to help you to leave drugs alone. Do not partake in smoking weed, vaping or drinking. It destroys futures. It destroys your health. We know that it is difficult to find good role models in the older men that we have, but if you have to speak to the women, do so. I know I am willing to help whoever asks for my help. So reach out to a friend, a family member. Go to church. Seek God's counsel. Pray. Ask someone to pray with you.
Turn away from this wicked behaviour. It seems you were even willing to mortally wound someone, to throw them from upstairs. Stop and think, please, please, before it is too late. I pray for you all. The devil is trying to see who he may devour. Let it not be you all. Pray for guiding and guardian angels. Read Psalm 91 each day and thank God for his peace that passeth all understanding. You all are wonderful young men and young women. Think life. You are above and not beneath. You are the head and not the tail. You will live and not die. I pray for you all.

I do agree that education in the BVI is finally on a positive move. Children are experiencing a more creative approach of learning that fosters innovative thinking using 21st century skills. They are on the right path. Let’s stop making Education political and focus on the benefits for our children. Read the article and then google other education systems regionally and internationally. BVI educational system is definitely on the move. Hon. De Castro doing a great job thus far.
  • great!
