2 of 3 COVID-19 patients test negative locally- Hon Malone
Additionally, only 5 persons now remain on quarantine in the VI.
This is according to Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Carvin Malone (AL) during a live update to the Territory, along with Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable, Andrew A. Fahie (R1), on ZBVI 780 AM radio last evening, April 9, 2020.
Hon Malone said 8 samples, including from two COVID-19 patients, were tested locally between Wednesday and Thursday of this week and returned negative; however, the samples will be sent to CARPHA in Trinidad today, April 10, 2020 with results expected by Saturday, April 11, 2020.
“This is testament to the measure at work because if these various steps were not taken we would have had a different result in this.
“We also learnt that from the 143 persons that were quarantined it is now down to 5,” Hon Malone said, adding that it is important to know the result of that because the Territory followed very strict protocols.
“We will get the results back [from CARPHA] but, from all indications and an official announcement will be made by Saturday, we would have just one person remaining from the three that were positive, so we have two that can now be deemed as negative from among the three,” Hon Malone emphasised.
CARPHA protocol
Hon Malone said the protocol for clearing COVID-19 patients by CARPHA is a thorough and lengthy one but the Territory is prepared to go that route.
“When a person is deemed to be positive they have to go through at least 14 days and then they are tested again they wait seven days and are tested again and those two tests must come back negative before it is deemed recovered from the particular test of being COVID-19 positive.”
He said the protocols will mean “it will take a little longer for us” to declare someone as negative because the protocol is more stringent than other places.
“We will rather take the long route and make sure that this is all done,” Hon Malone said.

We’ll endanger them and afterwards they’ll call on us to save ‘em
Trust our doctors to cure the sicknesses that we gave ‘em
Make ‘em spend all their days trapped in a unfair maze
This staying inside shit is for control, just wait till we’re able to go back out you’ll hear how the economy has taken a hit and we’ll be in a recession, just watch
Three cheers for His Excellency, the Govenor and six cheers for the Premier and the Government, for putting the Health and Welfair of the residents first.
Now is not the time to fight over who is in charge etc.
People first, and the government has shown that.
This is holy week.
Lets show love and forgiveness to each other, the same way Jesus forgave us for our wicked sins.
Stay safe BVI.
