The stabbing incident at the Balsam Ghut facility resulted in the death of Jamaica national Nickail Chambers, 29.

Chambers was serving a 10-year sentence for attempted murder and 10 years sentence for possession of a firearm when he reportedly tried to kill his childhood friend, Khori Prince, in 2017. His sentences were running concurrently.

2 held as investigations continue

And, according to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) in a statement today, May 31, 2021, two persons have been arrested but no charges have been laid as yet.

The RVIPF said officers of the Major Crime Team are continuing their investigations into yesterday evening’s incident at Her Majesty’s Prison that resulted in the death of one male inmate and injuries to at least three others.

"Nickail Chambers, 29, and two other males were taken to Dr D. Orlando Smith Hospital for injuries sustained in an apparent altercation. Chambers subsequently died of his injuries.

"Two men have been arrested in relation to this investigation however no charges have yet been laid. Investigations are ongoing," the RVIPF said.

Look at that, it took a young man to die for an investigation to be held at the prison. All along nonsense been going on at Ballo.. with inmates and staff alike. Look at the pics that been circulating. How can inmates be seen smoking, drinking from glass bottles and wearing all that bling, like them out at a picnic or something. Where are the prison officers who are suppose to be on duty? Those pics were taken right by the entrance of the prison. Just peachie right...natures little secrets

Tell me how can person be in prison and pictures from within said prison shows about 10 males full dressed (name brand clothes snd shoes, thousands of dollars jewelry )as though they aren't under arrest ) How is that possible, what are my tax dollars paying the guards to do? Is there no structure in the place. This Government is a joke!

I agree with your views! The 8th District there talking about fundings to clear gutters and drains, let them put the Prisoners to Work. If they cannot control this form of Prison Work, then We are in for Destruction. Shackle them, put them in orange scrubs (HMP INMATE) Let them clean the Streets and Grave Yards. Punishment not Enlightenment!

So he was in prison for attempted murder of a friend, and Karma gave it back to him full speed. No sympathy for him at all. Murderers always feel they should live, not that he murdered his friend, but he was a bad seed with no conscience.
