WEST END, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF), with the assistance other border control agencies, arrested two men heading into Tortola via West End during the ongoing curfew, yesterday, September 6, 2020.

The men are currently in the custody of police.

“I can confirm that officers responded to a report received about a vessel heading to West End on September 6 at approximately 5:35 pm,” Police Public Relations Officer Akia L. Thomas said.

“Two males were met and were subsequently detained. The investigation is ongoing,” she added.

The Territory's borders are closed at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Further, the recent spike in COVID-19 cases is being blamed on human smuggling and illegal entry.

Im thinking, if our borders were open, we wouldn't have this serge in cases and these issues with illegal entry.. Lota of smugglers dont kno they have the virus, if the borders were open there would have been a legal entry process, Firstly, If they are coming on Plane or Boat, they will have to produce a negative test 3 to 4 days old before they can board their carrier, then when they arrive here at our Ports we do another covid test for a small fee, then they will have to self quarantine for 2 to 3 days at their own cost in a private facility , until their results are known, this will bring well needed business to Hotels, Guest houses and restaurants the economy in extention, .This will also allow us to know the health status of people we letting into our country, So, with all that is said, it is fair to say that our closed borders is a major part of our problem...

You sounding good, that plan u laid out cannot work for Cruise ship passengers, which will be our biggest challenge. How do u sugggest we prepare and plan for cruise ship passengers..

As for Cruiseships... Those are going to be the the safest passengers, the least of our problems because the cruise ship is going to have their strict protocol, process of safety prior to passengers boarding...Cruiseship hardly spend more than 10hrs on land, and they bongle amongst themselves,, Our Citizen that will intetact with Cruise pssengers, still must wear their mask at all times and wash their hands like every hr as an added self safety measure required by law... Rest a sure, Cruise ship passengers wont be much of a risk....

@ Voter #6, Read between what lines? There is no other story here about this. Borders are closed to boats, except for fishermen or inter island ferries, whether you are going from sister islands or not. Curfew was also on at that time. How do you make anything right out of this wrong?

just my opinion and doing so while living a democratic climate. Things have change law enforcement wize now that mr smith is part of this tactical squad.... custom & immigration members have more social interest in the country than police members

I will pray that they are Hispanic so Mr. Skelton-Cline has support on his accusation since he always says that they are the ones who do human smuggling...
