ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – A non-governmental group in the first district is upholding its mission to give back to the community.

WestSide Konnekshun, a group of young people from the 1st District had promised to donate to all schools in their district, and so they did with donations to the Leonora Delville Primary School, the Isabella Morris Primary and most recently to Pelican Gate, a private school located in West End, Towers.

The group made a cash donation to towards Pelican’s Gate playground equipment on Friday March 9, 2012 to Principal and Director of the institution Lois Freeman-Augustine.

Principal Freeman-Augustine said the staff and students of the school were very grateful for the donation which came in very useful as the school is currently raising funds to purchase its playground equipment. She thanked the group of young first district residents for giving the donation and hope to continue relationship with the group.

Secretary of Westside Konnekshun, Kedimone Rubaine, said the group was formed in May 2011 with the main aim to give back to its community with their motto being “connecting the community one good deed at a time.”

“We are a community based, non profit organization whose purpose is to foster positivity and a sense of community togetherness and awareness throughout the First District. We have considered all the social plights that exist in the community whether it be mental, spiritual, academic, financial, just to name a few, and we are here to offer support by giving back and helping those in need as best as possible. We are willing to work with any community organization/group that has similar ideas as WSK to unite our community. You know the saying…..it takes a village.”

Since the 15-member group’s formation, Ms. Rubaine said this was their first major donation. She noted that they had held a Family Fun Day on January 14, 2012 at the Capoons Bay Field and the funds were raised particularly to give to all schools in the first district. They had also hold a clean up campaign in their district late last year.

She made it clear that the group is not politically affiliated and will continue to work to give back to its community in whatever it can.

For the Easter holidays, they are planning a fundamental basketball camp for youths of the first district which will cater to children from ages 10 through 16.

Raising money to give back to the community to help YOUR kids, every body (which it should really be everybody) want to form a commity. Go clean your mouth because obviously you have a case of THE STINK MOUTH!

My dear how will that ever happen when the persons like yourself that want such a group and that are being impacted negatively, are not interested in the work or commitment of starting the group, Only interested in being on the internet anonymously posting nonsense. I am a BVIlander but I personally do not feel the need for such a group. If you think it is needed get off your duff and start one

Excellent job for giving back to your community! I applaud you! Government can't do it all. Why do people insist on spelling words wrong to make a name? We are already having some serious problems with kids writing this way in school. From primary school right up to college. What is wrong with the correct spelling of the word 'Connection' instead of 'Konnekshun'?
