BEEF ISLAND, VI– Some 190 persons have arrived in the territoryon the first two days since the Virgin Islands (VI) re-opened its borders to international visitors, Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) announced today, December 3, 2020.

The Premier provided the statistics in a speech during the handover ceremony of the Tourism Welcome Centre at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island.

According to Hon Fahie, on December 1, 2020, some 107 persons arrived in the VI at the airport and on the initial test, the batch all returned negative for COVID-19.

“Yesterday was day 2, so 88 persons landed at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, and they all have been tested. By this evening we will know if all have them have tested negative on the first go-round,” he said.

Negative test before flying to VI – Premier

The Premier reminded that to visit the VI, persons would have had to test negative for COVID-19 before boarding a flight and noted that the appeal of the VI as a tourism destination is now married with the territory's drive to ensure the safety of its people.

“The fact is if here... was riddled with Corona, we wouldn’t be seeing them coming with confidence,” he said. Tourists would now be subjected to mandatory quarantine and another round of COVID-19 testing ahead of public interaction in the territory.

Hon Fahie said while some persons only look at the negative and some only look at the positive, he remains a realist who propagates the need to keep moving forward despite challenges.

I am seeing by your actions, Hon. Prelier A. Fahie that your administration are listening to the community concern, in reference to Covid-19. You are showing flexibility. That's good. Keep it up. Things will improve, even though it will take time. The inflow of tourist will gradually emprove blessings. God loves us all.

Not even a little decorations put up to welcome the visitor's back to our territories. The airport don't have one lick of BVI Love plastered over it. All the big promotions for BVI Love and the place look dry. What's up with that? We can do much better.

Is the taxis going to be quarantined as well or they go home to their families and mix with us jus asking ...

They should’ve only used Safaris to pick up guests that way
The taxi driver has little to no risk/contact .

Can you tell your staff to work with the expats too and not just tourist alone. When will we get our approval?? Why was free quarantine not on the application?? Why does a resident have to get a reservation to stay in a guest house etc.???
