17 conquer ‘The Beast’ in VG
The field of runners, which was reduced to a handful due to many opting to take on the Tortola Torture on that same day, was led by Reuben J. A. Stoby who completed the course in 42 minutes, 57 seconds, the fastest time on the course so far.
Trailing in Stoby, who is undefeated on the roads this year, was Alan Cundall who clocked 49:51 while Ezron Simmons made it home in 53:33.
Nadine Leslie was the women’s winner in 56:17 followed by Kay Reddy in 58:40. Sara Hayes took third in 1:00.54.
Stoby, who won the first 10K that took in the course of the second segment of the Dive BVI Half Marathon in a time of 40:15, commented that the course was tougher than he expected but was glad to have finished in a reasonable time and is now looking forward to the Virgin Gorda Half Marathon.
“My legs were screaming on some of the hills but thank God for the health and strength that eventually made me conquer ‘The Beast’. It truly is a beast,” Stoby said of the course that took in some of the climbs of Gorda Peak and Nail Bay.
