ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - The [British] Virgin Islands (VI) as of July 26, 2021, has vaccinated a total of 16,330 persons for COVID-19, representing 11,266 full vaccinations and 5,064 partial vaccinations. The territory is aiming for 75% of its population to become inoculated.

These statistics were released by Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) in an update today, July 27, 2021.

“BVI, we need an additional 6,170 persons to become vaccinated in our goal to reach 75% or 22,500 persons. A number of initiatives, such as vaccine drive-thru, radio announcements, and mobile set-ups have been initiated in almost all districts with the full participation of the district representatives,” the Health Minister said.

He said as an At-Large Representative in the VI; however, it remains concerning that on Tortola sufficient encouragement has not been directed to persons in a number of areas.

Areas of concerns named

Some areas of concern, according to the Minister, include Ballast Bay, Cane Garden Bay, Round Hill, Soldier's Hill, Brewer's Bay, Mount Healthy, Anderson Hill, Todman's Estate, New Bush, Meyers Estate, Windy Level, Chalwell Estate, Doty Estate, Mount Fertile and Harrigan's Estate.

“Persons living in these areas and wishing to be transported to the vaccination drive-thru areas are invited to call the COVID Vaccine Community Co-ordinator at 345-0724,” he said.

Hon Malone further announced that the territory continues to dispatch COVID-19 test samples for genotyping and, while no variant of concern has been identified, the fact remains that too many families are grieving the loss of a loved one.

just how the Members of the house was going house to house to house...they need to go house to house and register person to get vaccinated..and it's also a way to get census of how may persons in each district are vaccinated so some sort of community pride could come back where neighbors could socialize with out being in fare

its a joke and not a good one, 31 deaths because we closed ourselves off and partied and had mass events, USVI only 35 deaths and they have been open all the time, difference no clubs open or mass gatherings allowed.....the government did this and the people on Tortola and I will say it all the anti vaxers that didn't take the free vaccine to save your and others lives now 30 more people dead and its their fault...

the population of 30,000 is made up of 20% roughly under the age of 18 so you are asking for 24,000 to be at 80% , that is 100% OF THE POPULATION that can take the vaccine, the only way for that to happen is to make it mandatory for all work permit holders as well as all government workers, this will allow private employers to mandate it without all the fuss.

Don't be like that and look at the negative, be happy that people are getting vaccinated, the other day almost nobody didn't want to get vaccinated smh. Soo.. don't make it mandatory, majority have been vaccinated, let the others make their choice.

Are those who contracted COVID previously considered part of the herd?

New studies coming out are showing those woth natural immunity are receiving basically the same results as those who are vaccinated in terms of survival, hospitalisation and resistance against the delta variant.

so that might add another 2000 to the list so getting close to 19,000 still 5,000 short with 7000 vaccines being thrown in the trash in 3 days...

How is the 6170 calculated? How does the Government know how many people live in the BVI? There is no census, and only a small proportion has voting rights. Its all a guess!

If the goal is 22,500 people fully vaxxed, we are half way there. 6000 more is not the correct number because the partially vaxxed are being counted as fully vaxxed. They need to get that second jab, before this is accurate!
