1.6 tonnes of cocaine worth £120m found in charcoal @ UK port
Multiple media entities in the UK, including the BBC and Sky News reported today, June 16, 2023, on the discovery.
The drugs were found among 800 sacks of charcoal on a ship that arrived into London Gateway port from Panama last week, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said, adding that the Class A drug was found by Border Force officers.
It is thought to be the first time cocaine hidden in this manner has been seen in the UK.
2 arrested; firearms recovered
Sky News said armed police and NCA officers raided two farm properties in Leicestershire on Thursday after arresting two men, 50 and 31, in Coalville town centre.
They are being held on suspicion of importing class A drugs.
Two self-loading pistols and a rifle were found during a search of one of the properties.
