ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – (Post Time: 11:45 P.M.) Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an accident involving a SUV and a bicycle, which occurred on the west bound section of the James Walter Francis dual carriageway tonight, June 28, 2013.

Reports indicate that a 15-year-old boy was crossing the road on a bicycle from the direction of the Tobacco Wharf area when he came into contact with the vehicle, a red Chevrolet Tracker with licence plate PV22639.

The boy was reportedly rushed to Peebles Hospital for treatment after receiving injuries. The accident occurred sometime after 10 P.M.

According to information reaching this news site, another vehicle on the outer lane stopped to allow the boy to cross the road near the traffic lights at the junction near the BVI Red Cross building but the driver of the vehicle involved in the accident reportedly did not see the bicycle approaching.

According to the driver, the traffic lights were on green at the time of the accident.

These drivers what. Clearly the report says the light was green for the driver to proceed. You can't fault the driver in this case.

The report also stated "...another vehicle on the outer lane stopped to allow the boy to cross the road near the traffic lights at the junction near the BVI Red Cross building" as a driver you need to always keep your eyes on the road. Sometimes we see other people stopping and others still want to go speeding ahead. Proceed with caution when you see other drivers stopping.

Your on a highway at night you cannot pull a stunt like that. The driver cannot be faulted in this instance and although the one driver let him pass the bicycle rider was supposed to look at the other lane before proceeding. There is absolutely no case against the driver here, sorry to say.

This is why you should not stop to let people cross the road, whilst it may appear courteous - it is extremely dangerous. If you are trying to cross the road wait until it is safe to do so.

The highway is not for random stopping, you stop when the lights are on red, the driver of the moving vehicle is not at fault here but the car that stopped is.

It's against the law to stop on the duel carriage way. The kid should have been using the crossing which would have turned the lights red. Parents need to educate their kids on road safety

That's what the crosswalk is there for. Tired of drivers stopping on the highway to pick up people, for people to cross etc. That is DANGEROUS
