15 Illegal Immigrants captured on Anegada

SETTING POINT, Anegada, VI- Chief Immigration Officer, Mr Ian B. Penn has said 15 illegal immigrants are now in the custody of the Department of Immigration following an exercise by the officers of the Joint Task Force on Anegada on Sunday, April 24, 2022.

Mr Penn said information was received that there was an abandoned vessel on the eastern side of Anegada. Searches were conducted in various areas of the island resulting in the capture of 15 illegal immigrants of Haitian, Romanian and Colombian nationalities.

The Chief Immigration Officer said all persons were safely detained following intake interviews and COVID-19 testing administered by the BVI Health Service Authority.

'Remain vigilant'- CIO Penn to Anegada residents

Mr Penn urged persons residing on Anegada to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons to a law enforcement officer on the Sister Island.

According to a press release from Government Information Service (GIS) on April 26, 2022, the Immigration Department and members of the Joint Task Force will continue to increase their capabilities by ensuring that cohesive plans are executed in a manner that will ensure the safety of residents as the security of the Territory’s borders is paramount.

    Oh it breaks my heart them people trying to make a better way of life and you people who are benefiting from this ring need to stop ripping off these poor people. Lord have mercy have some heart. You know you can't take them to their rightful destination as promised. This type of organization is high risk. That is not helping them stop and think don't see money only see people's lives are at high risk. Sometimes even children are in the mix.

    It might sound gross but I often wonder how many of those illegals they tossed over the smugglers boat to a watery grave. These smugglers is heartless. Thing is, the smugglers is from right here.
