14 new recruits join RVIPF; 8 are Virgin Islanders/belongers
A release from Commissioner of Police, Mr Mark Collins indicated that the new recruits were sworn in yesterday, August 16, 2021, and included 11 new constables and three auxiliaries.
According to the RVIPF, the 14 new recruits will join with four serving auxiliary officers and the four auxiliary officers will complete the training to become constables.
The RVIPF noted that each of the new recruits gave their oath of allegiance at Police Headquarters in the presence of the Police Commissioner, along with the Acting Deputy Commissioner Jacqueline E. Vanterpool and Superintendent St. Clair Amory. The group subsequently assembled outside for first instructions from the Commissioner.
8 locals form part of new cohort
The new recruitment class is made up of eight Virgin Islanders or those deemed to belong and six from various Caribbean countries with an equal number of males as females.
The RVIPF said that the 14 new recruits and 4 additional auxiliary officers will begin a challenging six-month basic police training programme with early morning exercises and full days of class instruction.
The force said, “The training curriculum will cover the foundation of policing in both theory and practice and include on all aspects of law enforcement. Lectures will be held at the Marine Centre of H.L Stoutt Community College,” with all in-class instruction coordinated by Inspector Beverly James.
