DALLAS, Texas, USA– The British Virgin Islands Airports Authority (BVIAA) has strengthened its human resources to meet critical aviation safety requirements through the successful completion of initial firefighter training for thirteen recruits in the Rescue and Firefighting Service.

After completing the course, all thirteen recruits have achieved certification as Fire Officers.

According to JTV Channel 55, this initiative is part of BVIAA’s ongoing commitment to regulatory compliance and the development of a highly skilled and capable emergency response workforce.

2 cohorts participated

The training was conducted at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport Fire Training Research Centre, providing recruits with intensive instruction designed to meet mandatory certification standards. This ensures that all newly certified fire officers achieve the required competency levels within their first year of employment, in line with BVIAA's regulatory obligations and its internal RFFS Manual.

Two cohorts from the Virgin Islands completed the programme, with the first group receiving training from February 21–28 and the second cohort training from June 13–20, 2026.

This advancement reflects BVIAA’s continuous effort to maintain a fully certified and operationally ready fire and rescue service.

BVIAA stated that this training is critical for ensuring minimum staffing requirements and maintaining high standards of emergency response capability across its airport operations.
