DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI- The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government of Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1), in its quest to accomplish its legislative agenda as stated in its manifesto as well as in the Speech from the Throne, has been keeping the House of Assembly (HoA) active as never seen before.

The ‘unconventional government’ has also been passing a number of heavy legislations that past governments lacked the courage to even bring to the House.

Controversial legislations

Three of these controversial legislations were all passed in one month.

The long-awaited Virgin Islands Consumer Protection Act, 2020, was passed on June 8, 2020. The Virgin Islands Gaming and Betting Control Act, 2020, was passed without dissent at the Ninth Sitting of the Second session of the Fourth House of Assembly on June 18, 2020, and the 'Medicinal Cannabis Licensing Act, 2020, was passed on June 30, 2020.

Legislators last met on July 7, 2020, when the Medical (Amendment) Act, 2020, was passed in the HoA.

Lawmakers will return to parliament tomorrow, Friday, July 10, 2020, to continue the work of the people.

The Twelfth Sitting of the Second Session of the Fourth House of Assembly of the Virgin Islands will be held at Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duffs Bottom, Tortola from 10:00 am.

The HoA meeting will be carried live on CBN Channel 51 and streamed on the House of Assembly’s Youtube page.
