12% increase in domestic violence- Acting DCP Davis

Ahead of the summit, scheduled for September 24 to 26, 2025, at the Multi-purpose Sports Complex in Road Town, Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mr Kenrick Davis revealed a 13 per cent increase in crime in the past year, when compared to the same period- January to July.
The shocking revelation by Davis, in a press release from the Premier's Office on September 12, 2025, was the fact that domestic violence was the leading contributor to the overall increase in reported crimes, with a 12 per cent increase.
“That is a serious cause of concern,” he stated.
Gun violence remains a major concern
Mr Davis said gun violence remains a major concern, declaring that there is a gun problem in the Virgin Islands (VI).
“This year alone, we have already recovered 16 firearms and hundreds of rounds of ammunition…and if we consider that neither of these things is manufactured here, we don’t make guns, we don’t make bullets, but so much of it is around, then it is a serious cause of concern”.
VI not as safe as before, but it’s not too late
The Acting DCP said the numbers should point out that the crime is on the rise and the VI is not as safe as it once was 20 or 30 years ago.
He, however, said it is not too late to do something about it.
The theme for the upcoming Virgin Islands Anti-Crime Summit is ‘Our Virgin Islands: Safe Communities, Prosperous Territory’, where Government officials, non-governmental organisations, members of the business sector, community groups, churches, and students are expected to take part in a series of panel discussions, working sessions and other engaging activities.
The Anti-Crime Summit is being organised by the National Security Council (NSC).
