BALSAM GHUT, Tortola, VI- Eleven inmates at His Majesty’s Prison (HMP) in Balsam Ghut have received certificates of completion for participating in a six-week course designed to equip them with essential life skills for successful reintegration into society.

The Reintegration Programme ran from March to May and was facilitated by a team of dedicated professionals who volunteered their time and expertise. Topics covered included financial management, marriage and the family, money matters, spiritual wholeness, and mental health awareness.

This initiative was first launched in 2024 through the Correctional Fellowship Ministry (CFM) of the New Life Baptist Church’s prison ministry and continues to grow through meaningful partnerships with the community.

Gov't resources alone 'not sufficient'- Raymond B. Grant

Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Mr Raymond B. Grant, in a Government Information Service (GIS) press release on June 3, 2025, commended the ongoing partnership between the prison, faith-based organisations, and the wider community during his remarks at the ceremony.

Mr Grant acknowledged that while the prison operates under the Ministry of Health and Social Development, government resources alone are not sufficient to meet all the needs of the facility.

“It is only through collaboration with rehabilitation-minded individuals and organisations that we can truly support the transformation and holistic development of our inmates,” he said.

The Deputy Superintendent also outlined several recent developments at the facility, including the addition of a teacher and a counselor, and the introduction of new programmes focused on education, personal development, and rehabilitation.

This year’s facilitators included Republic Bank BVI, Mrs Norma Chalwell, Apostle Curnal P. Fahie, the BVI Health Services Authority (Mental Health Unit), Pastor Jovan E.L. Cline, Mrs Angelle A. Cameron, Mr Meade Malone, and Mrs Cynthia Hodge.

It would be nice if you could find something productive to do instead of hating on West Bank. One of the things that don’t come back to people is the past life; so leave him alone and think about yourself. Maybe you need to get a certificate in empathy. Please have some respect for the man family and think about if it was you or yours.
