ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- 100+ Women Who Care is an internationally recognised charitable movement that brings women of all walks of life together to give back to their communities.

“The concept of the charity is simple; women of all walks of life are invited to come together for one hour, once every quarter to give back to the community. It is not a charity where one is a member; instead one signs up to attend each meeting as they are held. The concept works because quite often we are unable to commit to weekly charity organisations/meetings and the other commitments that go along with joining a charity. But 100+ Women gives us the opportunity to be a part of something great on a schedule we can manage,” said event organiser Cindy Jones.

“The way the initiative is set up, there are no over-heads and everything done to hold a successful meeting, is donated. This way all funds collected go directly to the selected charity,” she went on to say.

How is money made for a charity? - All persons registered to attend the meeting will be asked to put forward $100. Each person will be asked to submit a charity of their choice. Three charities are then chosen and asked to present at the meeting. After the charities have presented, the group will vote on their favourite charity and that charity will be given all monies raised at the event.

“It is a really great concept and charities are assisted in a very big way,” said Mrs Jones.

The three chosen charities for the initial meeting are

  • The Family Support Network
  • Virgin Islands Cancer Society
  • Elmore Stoutt High School student Braeden Edwards who has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is in dire need of funding

Every female within the [British] Virgin Islands is invited to attend the first meeting for the VI which is being held on Saturday January 30, 2016 at the Road Town Wholesale Conference Room, on the second floor of the Rite Way Supermarket.  Registration for the event is 5:00 – 5:45pm with the event to start at 6pm. Only cheques or cash will be accepted.

If you are interested in this initiative but unable to attend the meeting, you can still be a part by emailing the group on 100womenbvi@gmail.com to register and indicate your charity of choice of the three chosen, and we will arrange to collect your donation prior to the meeting date.

Be a part of something great!

Great creative concept for helping charitable organizations. To much is given much is expected. Let's hope that all those women who can afford to donate $100.00 per quarter turn out in large numbers for this event. I am sure a lot of us will do that and I encourage all to attend. Congratulations to the organiser for coming up with a constructive thought to help the needy in our close knit society.

My vote would definitely be for the proposed building for the sanctuary for the recovery of domestically abused victims especially women.
