BAUGHER'S BAY, Tortola, VI– Opposition Member in the Virgin Islands (VI) House of Assembly (HoA), Hon Carvin Malone (AL) has raised concerns over the reported short consultation period for the constitutional review in the Virgin Islands.

This comes as the Constitutional Review Commission in the Virgin Islands (VI) has set-up office and has launched public consultations from November 1, 2022, following expressions of interest in meeting with the Commission.

Calling on persons to get together and meet with the Commission, Hon Malone while speaking as a guest on the Honestly Speaking show of Tuesday, November 8, 2022, said it is important that persons meet with the Commission now rather than waiting until the last minute.

“It is going to be critical. This body was given one year…. It is being felt widely that this is not going to be enough time to properly conduct the affairs of the review of the Constitution of the Virgin Islands."

“So it is critical that, whatever time it is, we don't wait until the very last minute in order to get this done,” he added.

Persons encouraged to submit comments

Meanwhile, a notice from the Commission has encouraged the public to submit any written comments via the comments tool also on the Commission’s website, www.yourconstitution.vg. which will ensure that comments are captured and recorded fully and accurately.

Hon Malone added that persons, even in groups of 40 can also meet with the Commission at their location, for those who are interested in group sessions.

Further, Hon Malone revealed that there was recently a brief meeting with the House of Assembly members for an overview of the process that will be taking place as part of the review.

He added that the HoA has been able to agree on an official public launch of the Commission, which is one that will provide more information on how persons can make a difference in the VI through the constitutional review process.

Meanwhile, the Constitutional Review Commission has advised it will be hosting a community meeting at West End Community Center today, Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at 6:00 pm.

Unconfirmed reports are that the meeting will not be live-streamed.

Past governments have woefully dropped the ball and prevented the territory from moving in the right direction.

The 2007 review allowed for the VI to choose whether to join Britain or go towards independence. That review gave elected leaders the opportunity to set the infrastructure in terms of institutions needed to forge ahead.

This vaccine sell out have our people blood on his shoulders. The truth is out all over the news now, and we need to carry the VIP to court over the great Scamdemic. The leaders who took the Bag lied to us and we now need to make them PAY.

When it came to the vax, I had no problem pushing something that was formed in less than 1 year (when it should have taken 10). I had no complaints at all because I like to play doctor and I enjoyed harassing the people DAILY with my fake rona update reports. But when it come to doing the job I am actually getting paid to do, I'm just going to complain because a review CANNOT be done in less than one year. No. In fact, I won't on even try to push out a once a week report to say how the review is progressing (fake update or not). Because I'm a HYPOCRITE and a lazy one too!

I will not disagree with the Hon. Opposition Minister on on issues that in my opinion he is right. But I am unable to agree with him that one year is not enough time for Constitutional Review Consulations.
I'm this life people can do many good work in one year, if is in their their best interest. To the contrary, people can, and have done many evil work in one year, because those evil work due their agenda.
I believe that what said is not enough time... in one year, can be done within that time frame, if enough genuine effert are put in to ensure its completion within the one year time period, mine and many others genuine opinion on the above topic issue.

We need an election if only to get this one out of the house. His 15 minutes are up and he is up and down like a rooster without hens crowing.

Yet the government always give the industry ridiculous time frames, ie FIA 5 days, to comply. 1 year would have allowed the charter boat industry to get onboard policy changes thrust on them. 1 year is plenty of time for Gvernment paid positions to do their job. Wah wah wah, its one rule for them and completely another for us.

Mr. Malone when you were part of the government you kept quiet about everything except during the Covid 19 pandemic. Now you are part of the opposition, you are constantly squealing like wheels in need of lubrication. This is why I don't listen to some politicians when they have power instead of getting up and speaking out against wrong doings they cover up a until they are on the other side. Sir, is no way you going to get my X again and that goes to some other politicians I know.

This Constitution review needs to be more than a review It needs to be more like a reform review. If reform can't be done within the review it needs provisions that will permit reforms outside the Constitution review. Above all else, it needs enough time to do it.

Carvin, you and the others followed Fahie lock and step with STUPID BULLS**** even when the people cried out and you completely ignored us. Now you expect people to take you on? What you are saying now makes absolute sense for sure but sadly nobody wants to hear from you at all. What you should start by doing is letting us know how the US$12mil was spent in your Ministry for Covid.
