CAPPOON’S BAY, Tortola, VI- Today, April 24, 2024, marks the first year of the 2023 general elections when the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) took six out of thirteen seats. The National Democratic Party (NDP) candidate at the time, Hon Lorna G. Smith OBE, then crossed the floor to join the VIP, giving them the one-member majority to form the Government led by Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

While many insiders have said Hon Smith is still not a member of the ruling VIP and she has confirmed that recently, she appeared on the VIP platform wearing a white top on Saturday, April 20, 2024, as First District Representative Dr The Honourable Karl Dawson did a VIP political rally in which he reported to his constituents.

Honoured to serve with the VIP- Hon Smith

Hon Smith noted in her brief remarks at the event that she is "honored to serve with this government… I am truly honoured.”  Hon Smith, now the Deputy Premier and Minister for Financial Services, Labour and Trade, opined, “I hope that I can contribute to the success of this government.”

Earlier in the programme at Cappoon's Bay Playfield, Minister for Communications and Works Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) acknowledged Hon Smith's presence on the VIP political platform and noted she is in “our corner and fully supporting the government”.

In gest, Hon Rymer noted that “Hon Smith did not get her VIP shirt in time, but she is fully supporting us as we carry out the mandate of this Government…”

The live stream hosted by JTV Channel 55 was cut off before Hon Smith was finished with her brief remarks because the reporter had to catch a boat to Jost van Dyke for another assignment, according to Hon Dawson.

Only BVI media can take a press conference where literally NOTHING OF IMPORT IS ANNOUNCED and turn it into three days worth of stories.

Aw Lorna left the corner and didn’t get her souvenir t-shirt yet? Tragedy!

If things got done around here I might even support a tax increase but all these clowns would do would be to buy another set of fancy t-shirts for themselves.

Sadly many of you fools don't see the correlation between Lorna decision to join the vip and a stable government, if it was formed with those three parties now in the opposition we would have been back to the polls long time!!!!!
