Wattley dashes 60 metre in 7.86 seconds!

Morgan State Bear, Brittany Watley got her indoor season of to a great start with a 7.86 victory in the 60 metres.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Britany Wattley and the Morgan State women's indoor track and field team opened up the 2011-12 season on Thursday December 7, 2011, competing in the Lid-Lifter track & field meet hosted by the Naval Academy at Wesley Brown Field House.

Britney Wattley captured the 60 meter dash in a time of 7.86. Ekundayo Sogbesan also placed first in her event, as she won the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.28. Kamice Smalls placed second in the 400, crossing the line in a time of 58.81, while Shaquala Phillips placed third in the 60 meter hurdles at 9.21.

The Lady Bears had three first-place finishes and one meet record, as they finish tied for third with fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) member Delaware State with 25 points. Host Navy won the meet with 71.50 points, while Towson came in second with 33 points.

The meet was dual scoring with Morgan State defeating American (78-32), Delaware State (70-53) and Mount St. Mary's (75-72). The Lady Bears lost to Navy and Towson by the identical score of 98-57.

The Lady Bears also did well in the field events, as Ranita Mealer sat a field house record with a throw of 14.80 meters to win the shot put. Mealer's throw broke the previous field house mark of 13.99 set by Saisha Woodward of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) on January 17, 2009.

Mealer also took fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 15.03 meters. Angela Bursey placed fourth in the shot put with a toss of 12.06 meters and Ajada Thomas took second in the triple jump with a jump of 11.37 meters.

Morgan State's 4X800 meter relay team of Patrice Rowe, Ishakeema Swain, Danielle Calhoun and Jasmine Hilts came in third in a time of 10:00.85.

The Lady Bears return to the track on January 7, 2012 when they travel to Princess Anne, Md. for a meet at UMES at 9 a.m.

    SHE HAS ONE PROBLEM THAT SHE NEEDS TO GET OUT OF HER HEAD,, WHICH IS.. SHE DOES NOT WANT HER BODY TO BECOME MUSCULAR..WHICH NEEDS TO HAPPEN..IF SHE WANTS TO BE SUCESSFULL IN THOSE HEATS..HOW I KNOW..I HAD A COVERSATION WITH HER A FEW YEARS AGO..AND SHE IS STICKING TO HER BELIEFS..NOT TRYING TO BE NEGITIVE ..JUST STATING FACTS..FOR A 60METER DASH THAT TIME CAN HAPPEN..BUT NOT IN A HUNDRED METER..HER PRESENT BODY WLL NOT STRUCTURE WOULD NOT TAKE HER TO THE TOP LIKE TAHASHIA..!
