TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI - Persons in need of cash and other banking services at the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island now have the convenience of a CIBC Caribbean Automated Banking Machine (ABM) that was recently installed at the airport.

The ABM service was reintroduced to the airport in April following an agreement between the BVI Airport Authority and CIBC Caribbean for the installation and management of a cash dispenser at the facility. The provision of the ABM service addresses an ongoing need expressed by the airport’s customers.

“Offering some sort of banking service for its customers has always been part of the BVIAA’s remit and we have been working to reinstate an ABM for our customers, businesses and airport workers,” said Mr. Kurt A.G. Menal, Managing Director, BVIAA.

“We wanted to partner with a globally recognized and trusted institution to provide a reliable solution and meet the demand for access to cash on-site. After undertaking our research and due diligence, we approached CIBC Caribbean and reached an agreement for the provision of the ABM.”

Convenient Location

The machine, which is in front of the stairs between the airline service counters and the departure lounge, is accessible to incoming and departing passengers and all other users of the airport.

“The bank conducted a viability study to understand the traffic we should expect at the ABM and we have been encouraged with the weekly increase in usage of the machine,” said Fabian Devonish, acting Country Manager for CIBC Caribbean.

He added, “We foresee an exponential increase in travelers, airport businesses and staff using the ABM as well as the public who will benefit from being able to withdraw cash in Long Look and Beef Island. The ABM will work with VISA and MasterCard debit and credit cards to dispense US dollars regardless of the currency in which the account funds are held.”

CIBC Caribbean ABM machines are also installed at international airports across the region including Antigua, Barbados, The Bahamas and Providenciales, TCI.

This looks like they just call anyone that was passing at the time to come and stand up and pose for a picture

Why do they need to have a photo opportunity and news about a machine being installed at the airport? Waste of time.
How about some investigative journalism and the bank having tellers on duty, not having fun at the airport.

As much as this is great news I predict it will be out of cash or out of order three times a week, especially on the weekends, which is the BVI standard for cash machines. And let me guess…$10 transaction fee?

This is a shame, we should have installed it overnight with no pictures and just have it appear overnight, and we are supposed to be an "Upscale destination *

Where else in the world would the installation of a cash point make the news? Why does it take an agreement between the airport authority and a bank to simply install an atm? Why doesn’t every shop on the island have one of these? Why are things so backwards here????

Things are happening in the Territory for the benefits of the people. This is a very innovative move by the bank, and I want to commend the management of CIBC for looking to enhance the comfort of the travelers. I do hope there will be adequate cash in the machine, and it makes a difference in our travelling experience. I want to extend best wishes for this service.

All around the World there is now contactless payments. What's the point of contactless payment when you still need to enter your PIN? BVI is about 20 years behind the rest of the World when it comes to banking. These cabal of banks rip us off, give us a sh#t service and we're supposed to be excited about an ATM???? Jeez
