Young Professional Stephanie J. D. George.

An Audit Manager at the professional service firm Deloitte, Stephanie is a shining example of a truly successful young professional and Virgin Islander.

Ms. George has been with Deloitte close to eight years including an eighteen month secondment with their Cayman Office. At age 31, Ms. George holds a Masters in Business Management with a concentration in Accounting, which she acquired at the Florida A&M University in Tallahassee Florida and is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in the State of Georgia.

Ms. George was always a high achiever, as she was valedictorian at the Cane Garden Bay Primary School, now the Ivan Dawson Primary, and the then BVI High School. She was always very good with numbers but never fond of reading. Quite ironic, our Young Professional is now required to do just as much reading as working with figures since she has recently taken on dual roles in Audit and Enterprise Risk Services (ERS), the latter which requires lots of reading and research.

Stephanie J. D. George is an Audit Manager at the professional service firm Deloitte.

When asked what her duties included, she replied, “As an audit manager I manage a team of 2-4 persons depending on the size of each engagement. This involves testing and reporting on the accuracy of companies’ financial statements, while ensuring that they are in line with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. Within ERS, I work closely with trust companies to assist in meeting the regulatory requirements enforced by the Financial Services Commission (FSC). Regulations are always changing and I too must keep pace with the changes and because of this, I am currently enrolled in the International Advanced Certificate in Financial Crime and Compliance course and will later pursue the Diploma level.”

When asked what are her goals are as a young manager, Ms. George said “I try to be helpful; I try to be the type of manager that staff can easily consult for technical matters. It is important in this job to keep the clients happy by getting the job done efficiently through the effective management of my team.”

Our Young Professional is also a part of Deloitte’s talent development team, which is responsible for recruitment and training of Deloitte staff. In addition to that, Ms. George is involved in community service outreach as an employee of Deloitte and a member of the BVI Association of Professional Accountants, through programmes such as the ESHS Career Expo and tutoring at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School after school programme.

Ms. George enjoys working with young people and is the current youth leader of the Cane Garden Bay Methodist Church. In her spare time, she loves to travel and during her downtime, enjoys watching TV shows like the Food Network as she loves the kitchen and is known for her local pastries.

Ms. George is the daughter of Cosmus and Lilian George, who have both been very influential in her life by teaching her to be God fearing and to always respect others and to make the best of what you have in life. These values have played a critical role in keeping her focused on achieving her goals even in challenging times.

Our Young Professional advises young people to “stay positive, be true to yourself even if it means standing alone at times. Find something you love to do, stay focused and trust God to see you through”.
