NECKER ISLAND, VI (UKPA) – Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet and her children have managed to escape unhurt after a middle-of-the-night fire ripped through Sir Richard Branson’s luxury home in the Caribbean.

Those who fled the flames at The Great House on Necker Island also included Sir Richard’s 90-year-old mother, Eve, and his 29-year-old daughter, Holly.

“Around 20 people were in the house and they all managed to get out and they are all fine,” said Sir Richard who was staying in another property around 100 yards away with his wife, Joan, and son, Sam, 25.
Sir Richard, 60, bought Necker Island in the early 1980s and began building the eight-bedroom Great House in 1982.

He went on: “We had a really bad tropical storm with winds up to 90mph. A big lightning storm came around 4am and hit the house.
“My son Sam rushed to the house and helped get everyone out. Kate Winslet, her boyfriend and her family were there and Holly and some of her friends were also staying. My mother was there and they managed to get her out and she is fine.

“The main house is completely destroyed and the fire is not yet completely out. My office was based in the house and I have lost thousands of photographs which is very sad.”

  2. Confusion says:

what about the lemars did they burn?????….

    • Lucky Lemur says:

“Nah man we safe. Just be glad nobody got hurt.” :s… On another note, Branson will rebuild in less than six months, and u know the next one will be bigger and badder! Remember is Branson we talking bout

  3. BVIslander Here! says:

GOD don’t like ugly! Glad no one was hurt but Sir Richard if you don’t change your wicked and selfish ways next time you all wouldn’t be so lucky. Take this as a stern warning from GOD! If you don’t let the BVI go more plagues will come upon you.

    • tell the truth says:

TO BVISLANDER HERE”; please scatter your silly crazy backside. Richard has done so much for the BVI and because of him and Necker Island, the BVI is on the map….so hust!!!!! you are th wicked foolish one!!!!!!

      • I agree! says:

I agree with BVIslander! To “tell the truth” What Richard done for the BVI was for his gain, the BVI might have gotten a piece of the pie but whatever he did he did it for his benefit in the end. That is how business is done! I know the guy well, he doesn’t do anything unless he is getting the most gain out of it.

        • you fools says:

So what have you done for the BVI? Lets hear it.

          • tell it like it is says:

Mr. Richard B has helped to put the BVI at the top of niche tourism around the world. Necker Island and the image it created have gone a far way to up lift and promote the BVI. Must I say more…..

    • Black Eye says:

Why is it that when we have contempt in our hearts towards someone, we like to put the name of God in it??? Murderers walking the street untouched but you think that God will go after a man who has never hurt anyone. I dont get it.

  4. Seriously? says:

I am thankful that no one was hurt as a result of this fire, many lives could’ve been lost but GOD watched over them and got them to safety. He will rebuild and will be bigger than ever, do not worry about the pathetic people that post against you Sir Branson, those who truly know you know you are a man of character and sincere generosity. GOd bless you and your family and friends.

  5. yop says:

Kate Winslet, that’s the woman who played Rose on Titanic.

  6. BVI Baby says:

Ayo back off Richard..he aint need ayo BVI people!!!

  7. me says:

Mr give to the poor and needy.
The bvi is crying out what are you doing to help?
what goes around must come around .

  8. Che says:

I love ignorant posters, make she laugh and cry at the same time..sheeeet,probably the only thing good about these news blogs..which is what they are..

  9. Reality Check says:

How is it your duty to tell a man what to do with HIS hard earned money? What is this world coming to? Get off your lazy (no comment) and earn your money instead of looking for hand outs… At that time, you can give yours to the poor as you see fit.

Reality check 101: God blesses people with a little and only when they are faithful over a little, he may choose to bless them with more…

Reality check 102: Don’t ever envy people that appear better off that you as you don’t know what they’ve been through to get where they are or how they really are on the inside. Additionally, you should always consider the source of material things…blessings come from God but it is not always the case with money!

Reality Check 103: “Give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God” (Prob. 30: 8-9).

  10. Justice says:

I second that Reality Check…Sir Branson only did what he was allowed to do. If the island was not up for sale he would not have bought it, case close. Tell your life story to the Premier!
