ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Andrew Fahie, the 1st district representative and Minister for Education and Culture, stated the Virgin Islands (VI) has “to do a lot of healing” after the 2011 General Elections, due to character assassinations and other ploys used by politicians to get their messages across to voters.

Speaking at a meeting held in Frenchman’s Cay on Monday, October 24 the Minister told supporters that post-election will have to be about unity and not division.

“After this election we will have a lot of mending to do and uniting to do because people have resorted now to saying anything, especially in these last few days to gain power,” he said.

For many, the 2011 General Elections slated for November 7, 2011, has become “a war” where many of the candidates have resorted to vicious personal attacks instead of focusing on areas that need improving in the Virgin Islands.

One “unofficial” pundit, who wishes to remain anonymous, has pointed out that the two major parties, the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) and the National Democratic Party (NDP), are the culprits.

“People are just getting fed up. And the blogs aren’t helping because supporters from both parties are having fun just slandering each other,” the individual added.

However, Hon Fahie is optimistic, and noted that “One thing we know is that the truth always will float and the lies are going to sink.”
