Andersen earned his first ICSA-All-American honor for his efforts throughout the year sailing primarily in B Division for the Hawks

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – 2012 London Olympics’ hopeful Alec Anderson has topped a stellar season off with being named the Inter Collegiate Sailing Association All American Skipper of the Year Award for 2011, at the final Nationals banquet in Cascade Locks, Oregon.

Andersen earned his first ICSA-All-American honour for his efforts throughout the year, sailing primarily in B Division for the Hawks. A 2011 First Team All-NEISA Selection, Andersen was a key contributor to the Hawks’ championship.

During the year, the sophomore skipper had several strong showings, including a win at B Division at the NEISA Coed Dinghy Championships and third place at the ICSA Coed Dinghy Western Semi Finals.

In the same week, Anderson also skippered the team to lift the Walter C. Wood Memorial Trophy at the APS/ICSA National Championship. That victory was the culmination of three days of racing which included six round robins.

The fourteen top collegiate team race teams in the country, representing the seven districts in the ICSA, gathered to compete for the championship.

The Columbia Gorge Racing Association and the Northwest Intercollegiate Sailing Association organized a great event for the sailors as the regatta hosts. The competitors arrived at the sailing venue to a steady 15-knot breeze and a cool 45 degrees. The sailors hit the water to complete the second round of the Gold Fleet round robin. There was close and exciting racing down to the end. The winds continued to gust in the 20 knot range and each team fought to move on.   The teams’ focus helped them stay in the race and win the event.  The winning team included skippers, Alec Anderson (BVI) and Cy Thompson (St Thomas USVI),
