Ray George fired from Government job, no reasons given
Ray George terminated with immediate effect in lieu of one month’s pay.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Information reaching Virgin Islands News Online is that Ray George, a government contract officer assigned to special projects including Biwater within the Ministry of Communications and Works, has been terminated with immediate effect.
George, hired under the Virgin Islands Party Government, was the point person for the Biwater project and recently was put in charge of the government owned and operated Baughers Bay Desalination Plant.
Virgin Islands News Online’s sources within the National Democratic Party (NDP) Government of Dr. D. Orlando Smith told Virgin Islands News Online that the government exercised a clause in George’s contract where they terminated him with immediate effect, in lieu of one month’s pay.
According to the same source, no reasons were given to George for the sudden termination of his contract, which had another two years to go.
George has been a defender of the Biwater project and explained its terms before the recent general elections.
Some public officers, who spoke to Virgin Islands News Online on the condition of anonymity, blasted the decision as “pure politics” and “bordering on victimization”.
The Baughers Bay plant was also overseen by George.
George, a former Director of the BVI Ports Authority was hired as an advisor to the former Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Julian Fraser, RA.
Virgin Islands News Online understands that George was called into a meeting earlier this week and the decision was explained to him by the Minister for Communications and Works Hon. Mark Vanterpool in the presence of the Ag. Permanent Secretary Arlene Smith-Thompson.
As of press time, neither George, Hon. Vanterpool nor the Ag. Permanent Secretary could be reached for comments.

when is the labour commissioner going home????!!!! this woman is all about self, serious conflict of interest. when locals go the labour department to file grievances against their employers instead of resolving the issue she tries to secure cleaning contracts etc with the same employers.
How can you own a company “Triple K” which does job placements and work permits. So you are in essence submitting the permit from your firm to approved by yourself.
Enough, you are 100% correct! That’s why some people have resorted to taking legal action against the companies because the Commissioner does not meet with the Employer and Employee to sort things out. But the same company as you say has a cleaning contract with the Commissioner. Its a clear conflict of interest.

The man has to go he’s not willing to work with the new plans, so instead of sabotaging them he can go somewhere else where he is more comfortable.

Politicians cannot fire governement employees. Ray was a political yard fowl, put there to perform a job he was not competent for. What are his success stories? If he were actually a government employee he would have more protection. Claude is just another political mistake. OJ may actually be useful.

I am sure the man wasn’t fired, why he aint talking if he claim he was fired….I sure that man contract was up and they jus didnt renew it, for reasons i am sure they saw fit……and explain to me as a gov employee why was he always on the rostrum defending gov (politics) and their biwater, according to general orders he wasn’t to do that, and he been doing that from the day he got the contract until the gov. changed. it was only a matter of time, ah guess nobody sought to tell he smart self read the general orders ad the consequences of such actions before being put up to b a fool…..all in all meh sure dey man contract expired, nobody fired him and he was a duplicate of somebody else in the same office.hmmmmm….do yall research before thinkin the gov victimised anyone.
