O’Neal: Where was Myron with his ideas when he was TB chairman?

The BOND, North Sound, Virgin Gorda, VI – Irene Penn-O’Neal wants to know where were “these grand ideas” now being peddled by Myron Walwyn, who is now aligned with the opposition, to promote the Virgin Islands when he was the chairman of the BVI Tourist Board.
“The former TB Chairman, now has all the answers for our tourism industry, where were those same suggestions when he headed the board. Where were you? Where were these plans?” she asked during a meeting at the Bond, Virgin Gorda on Sunday, October 9, 2011.
Mr. Walwyn, an At Large candidate under the National Democratic Party’s (ND) umbrella, had resigned from the post in July 2010 after spending nearly two years at the helm.
Now on the campaign trail with the NDP, he is one of the front-runners that have criticised the way in which the incumbent Government is handling the tourism product.
But At Large Representative Hon. O’Neal warned Virgin Gordians not to be fooled.
“Ladies and gentlemen be careful when they come to you, they come in all shapes and colours. They come like the wolf in sheep’s clothing. Be careful. You know what you have but you don’t know what you are going to get,” she stated.

Meanwhile, the At Large rep. said for the Virgin Islands (VI) to remain competitive in a volatile tourism season, customer service has to be spot on.
“The Tourist Board needs to concentrate more on customer service training, this is the area that is hurting us the most. As simple as it seems, when we get into a shop, pleasantries, a good morning and greetings are important,” she lamented.
She continued, “We must work on this. We must do it for ourselves, because sometimes when we [the locals] come into stores, we are looked at as we are just looking around. But as a tourist come in they run to them and ask can I help you. It should apply to every customer that walks through your door. Whether it’s a BVIslander, a resident, whatever when you walk through any business in this Territory you must be greeted with a smile. That is what the industry is all about.”

If Myron was allowed to do his job while being chariman af the Tourist Board, he would not have left. The premier very well knows why Myron left. As for Hon. Penn-O’neal, I am very disapointed in your comments on most matters these days. I was indeed thinking about giving you a vote and NDP the other three but you are playing monkey see monkey do. Even though you said nothing in the house on issues that would affect our people and this country, I was still willing to give you a vote..then I woke up after hearing you chatting pi$$$$on each rostrum now.

Listen great ideas are great ideas, simply put, WE need to work together to build a strong nation, a house divided against itself cannot stand, so if a house can’t stand, what do you think happens to a nation that is divided. Welcome their ideas, as we welcome yours and work together, man.
We all have good, bad and ugly about us, we need to work together, because there are good ideas coming from both sides.
This country has been divided for years now and it’s getting worst, too much envy, malice and hatred towards eachother, so sad!!!
We use to have elections in here for years before NDP came on board. As soon as they came in, families start to separate. Everyone has a choice. And if my choice ain’t yours why should I be labelled idiot, no common sense, and so forth. We use to throw a little word, next minute we laughing. Not so now. NDP has caused that division. For the other parties to win POP, PPA, United and whatever else independent in there they have to fight different battles. For example why does GAS CYLINDERS (another dynamic recently added) and cash have to be floating through our communities so? People’s X are worth more than that, but you see God like thing done in order, and if you out of line, he going put it in line. We need to shape up. But we must praise him for the stability we have had so far, and we thank ham for the Virgin Islands Party. He placed them in line cause he knew the economic challenges that we were going to face. Experience work wonders.

LOL!! I just lost my respect for Irene! I had her to be one of the more sensible ones on the VIP ticket! She knows that Ralph and his daughter are the real leaders of the TB and not the chairman! Blyden is only there still because he’s the type of ‘yes’ man they want! Myron wanted to move the place forward and make some tough decisions but the Premier wasn’t having it!! Irene and her VIP colleagues know exactly why Myron left but they think we stupid.
The good thing is, I know Myron and I know he will address this in his next speech. Irene? BIG MISTAKE!!

IF Myron was so bad, why of all people did Ralph choose him to be the Chairman of the TB? If my memory serves me right, Zoe an at-large candidate for the VIP was awarded a lucrative consultancy contract with the Tourist Board. However, to date we haven’t heard about the findings of the said study? She was involved with the Drag Race study as well as another confusion project in East End? Should I talk all? No, I’ll save some!!!

Irene, although you have done absolutely nothing constructive or anything we could attribute to you, I was willing to give you a vote because you seem to be a nice person, which I know is a stupid reason to vote for anyone. In any event, you have no ideas of your own to offer so you should not be knocking Myron’s. The point is, he has some ideas now and we need all that we could get to push our country forward.
