More Anegadians receive land titles

THE SETTLEMENT, Anegada, VI – Some have waited decades to have that crucial document to show that they own land in Anegada and today, Friday September 16, 2011, 40 residents were recipients of land titles.
At a simple ceremony held at the Emile Dunlop Community Centre, Premier Ralph T O’Neal and Minister for Natural Resources and Labour Omar Hodge were among several Government officials who were present.
The titles that were given out were for residential purposes to persons who were deemed eligible by the Anegada Lands Development Advisory Committee or who were descendants of Anegadians.
Lawrence Wheatley was one such recipient, who told Virgin Islands News Online that he is now the proud owner of a ½ acre of land in West End, Anegada.
Hon. Hodge told residents that eventually everyone on the island will be allocated a plot of land, though he admitted it is a tedious process.
“Land titles are not easy to come by….We will not stop giving out land. It is indeed through repeated trials that this Government was able to break through to get the distribution of Anegadian land forward. The Virgin Islands Party (VIP) is always to do something great, working for the people,” he said.
The Minister with responsibility for land could not resist adding that after the general elections, he has great hope to return to his Ministerial position and continue to work for the people.
“By November I after you have put your Xs, the VIP will come back…we are here to serve you, we are genuine people. You rest us down, and you are dead for a long time,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Hon. O’Neal who is also the 9th district representative said he is aware of the criticisms that Anegadians are forsaken, but he is not fazed.
“We will see the results when the time comes,” he stated.
He explained further, “The island has been given a lot of thought to get the kind of development that the people wanted. We have to make sure we did the right thing”.
The 9th district representative also urged the title holders that the document represents their legal right to ownership.

“You should be proud,” he added. “We continue to look after the people with their problems. Continue to press on and solve your problems now and for the future generation”.
Furthermore, the Premier disclosed that the good partnership between himself and Minister Hodge has resulted in this red letter day.
Meanwhile, Muriel Fahie, one of the recipients recalled in the old days when persons could just build, adding, as “things have changed because we have to wait on the Crown but now the advantage having land is that it could be used as collateral”.
Also making brief remarks was Melvin Vanterpool, President of the Anegada Lands Development Advisory Committee.
Since the Anegada land allocation began in the 90s, over 250 titles have been handed out.

People so dam stupidy, right before election you finally getting your land………..
Don’t you ever get anything right before a grand event? Something you felt you should have had a long, long, time ago, and only now it coming?. Be honest.
Mark you, Anegadians know this was a promise made, and a promised delivered, so it could have been the day before election, it’s delivered. It doesn’t mean people stupidy like you said. That’s to show how you all keep feeling bout people. Only you all ain’t stupidy. But birds of a feather rank together, and that’s why……… (figure it)
What? My husband sleeping with the Anegadian……..teen a ting meen nuh…lol!
If you all only know what happened that day. They give land to two people who are not anegadian, who mother from england who father from virgin gorda… and here you leaving comments about you want your turn. if you all want to see your land given away to people who dont qualify to get the land sure go ahead and let it be your turn. But come voting day anegadians will show VIP how “stupidy” we are.
Anegadian Really Really…. Do you qualify, if i remember right from the last set of land given to the people half the folks did not qualify…We had folks from the USA who was claiming land saying great great aunt Jane Doe was from here so they are entitled and received land and we are upset with people who was actually born here because there parents was not WOW. Wait Wait what is the official definition of an Anegadian….. Lets see hmmmm… Is it both parents born anegada (or anegadians) or One parent and you being from Anegada ….. Im trying to jog my memory… Well the long and short of it is we like to point fingers and don’t look at ourselfs.
PS. I am an Anegadian
Better Yet BVILander
You are sickening! Why are you fighting? Are you taking the land to hell with you? The same person you are fighting was born right on Anegada. Let me guess you were the one that delivered them to know whether they qualify or not.
Thank you VIP for our lands. However dont broad cast it as if you doing us a favor and you have acomplish much. While giving us our lands, you allowed many who didnt quailfy as Anegadians to get lands. You see there is always some under cover going on. Goverment appoint a committee on Anegada that served absoultely no purpose….. everyone on the committee was a VIP supporters thus we had no transparency and fairness in the process. I so sick of goverment using us to sell their campaign. All is the same, NDP and VIP………. this election we go see wha going on in BVI
