Mission accomplished! Aragorn Dick-Read returns from China

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Having completed his mission to make the world’s biggest Fire Ball sculpture, local artist, Aragorn Dick-Read recently returned from a 7-week stint in China.
Mr. Dick-Read successfully completed his goal to build the world’s biggest Fire Ball sculpture as part of the 12th Annual China Changchun International Sculpture Symposium.
According to a press release from Broad Sword Communications, during his visit Mr. Dick-Read was able to meet Mr Cui Jie, Mayor of Changchun, to whom he delivered a small symbolic gift of a Virgin Islands flag and a message of greeting from the BVI Tourist Board director, Ms Hadassah Ward. China is forecast to be a significant tourist market for the BVI and Ms Hadassah Ward had seen Dick-Read’s visit as an opportunity to start a positive relationship with the Mayor of this wealthy city of 8 million people, the release further stated.
Mayor Cui Jie, acknowledged that many important companies in his city are registered in the BVI and expressed his appreciation of the fact that Aragorn Dick-Read’s visit constituted the beginning of a new cultural relationship between the BVI and China.
Mr Dick-Read said, “My objective to make the biggest Fire Ball sculpture in the world has been completed successfully. By having a BVI islander at the symposium we have put BVI art and culture on the world stage and it was a great privilege to meet up with so many artists from around the world. “Mr. Dick-Read completed his aptly named Dream Of Human Harmony Fire Ball sculpture in under 3 weeks. Prior to its final installation in the new Changchun World Sculpture Park, the 10-foot sculpture was spectacularly set ablaze in front of over 200 spectators on the Gui Jie August full moon.
Fire Balls have become Dick-Read’s signature works of art and have found their greatest acclaim as the focal attraction at the Fire Ball Full Moon parties held every month in Trellis Bay, Beef Island. Thousands of visitors to the BVI have enjoyed the entrancing spectacle of the Fire Balls set ablaze on water, and many collectors from throughout the world have commissioned Dick-Read to make Fire Balls for their private collections.
Dick-Read is happy to be back home and is feeling very positive about his experience in China. He is already developing plans for future exchanges between Chinese and Caribbean artists.
