Min. Fraser disappointed VI not rated among top internet users in C/bean
Minister for Communication and Works, Julian Fraser RA
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The report by the Financial Times’ fDi Intelligence division naming the Virgin Islands (VI) as having the Caribbean’s best quality of life comes as no surprise to Minister for Communication and Works Julian Fraser, RA, however, he has expressed disappointment that the VI is not rated among the top internet users per capita.
The report, which ranks what it deems the region’s “Countries of the Future,” covers several categories, including economic potential, infrastructure, business friendliness and foreign direct investment strategy, ranked Bermuda as having the most internet users per capita, followed by Saint Lucia.
Speaking to Virgin Islands News Online, Hon. Fraser pointed out that as Minister for Communications, he has always been advocating for easier and cheaper access to internet by citizens since it was one of the things that made life “good and great” and was a little disappointed to know that Bermuda and St. Lucia were leading the VI as heavy users of the internet.
He noted that internet access in the United States and the United Kingdom were significantly cheaper than in the Virgin Islands and that he would continue to advocate for more affordable internet accessibility for the Territory.
Among English-speaking Caribbean nations, Turks and Caicos had the best economic potential, Antigua and Barbuda had the best infrastructure, Saint Lucia had the best business friendliness and BVI was named as having the region’s best quality of life. Coming in second in that category was Bermuda, followed by the Cayman Islands.
The quality of life ranking was based on a number of factors, including life expectancy, infant mortality, GDP PPP per capita, unemployment, crime and secondary enrolment.
Minister Fraser said the good report for the VI comes as no surprise to him and was actually expecting such comment as it also comes on the heels of FCO Director of Overseas Territories, Colin Roberts’ comments about the VI’s handling of its finances.
“All BVIslanders should not be surprised. If you travel the Caribbean and even the world you would see that there is something very unique about the BVI. The people would be happy to know that the Virgin Islands Party did all to make it what it is and we expect to be back in office to continue the work and make things even greater.”
The report’s judging panel was comprised of Alfredo Coutinho, director for Latin America at Moody’s Analytics, Bowers Consulting owner John Bowers and Jacqueline Wells, senior investment analyst at fDi Intelligence.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah tell um Fraser
thats the man….he’s not a backslider
for real, one of the strongest VIP members and a man of his words
We have one of the most expensive internets in the world. The service is poor to say the least. We do not get what we pay for. We need competition instead of everythig going through Careless & Worthless.
Internet services here SUCKS including dsl. i have had faster dial up in the US than with my unltra dsl package.
Equality for everyone, the broadband speed should be the fastest it can be and at the same price to everyone nor whoever can afford the high speed it costs Lime nothing extra for the bandwidth so why charge $141.00 a month for 6gs when u only really get about 3 and then charge i think about $50 for 1g which wouldnt even open a page. The BVI telecommunications regulatory body should jump on this now as if they want fairness in the society why are the letting the people who can afford the higher package get all the bandwidth and people who can’t none really. Now I pay for the higher bandwidth but i feel ripped off by the service and i believe everyone should have the same bandwidth package for a fair price.
thanks god for fraser we got tel liralzation, water liberlization and now he ah fight for cheaper internet…there goes a true man for the people!!!
thanks as always Mr. Frazer for fighting for your district, your country and the little man..four more years
why the hell he and Orland always fighting???
It continues to be clear to all who will be honest is that Dr. Orlando is no match for the RA!
Why would the BVI or Caribbean be, we are a not high populated. What population size was this study measured against. Those are some of the factors which need to be taken into consideration. What is the level of Fraser’s internet use.
“To Ambitous”, If you read the article you would see that the article speaks of per capita, which is a common denominator in measurements. And your sarcastit question about Fraser’s use of the internet, shows your ignorance of the man, and is not worth being dignified with an answer.
well said here here here to ‘unnecessary!’
Well Mister Fraser if u give all the school children a laptop and free or affordable internet I guarantee that will change.
Is that the only thing you people think about? GIVE.. GIVE…GIVE. Dont these children have parents?
Fraser hush because those are the same countries we call to report the LIME faults. You allow those countries to run things. We have people here looking for jobs and LIME outsourcing everything including setting up and running the Internet. I sat on the phone trying to get my Internet working for an hour speaking with someone from some other country.
How can Fraser tell Lime who should or should not answer fault calls. You people sound crazy. It is a free world. This is the same problem that the USA has now. Companies outsourcing to other countries, even to the BVI. So whats your point?
“To Yeah Right” what you are referring to is called GLOBALIZATION. Not FRASERIZATION. You sicko. You hate Fraser so much you fail to see the point in all this, about internet service to BVI at low rates. The mal is simply advocating for low rates for us. Whats your problem. Fraser is the man.
First he give us low telephone rates, then he give us
Cheaper Water , then he give us
Treated Sewage , now we want
Cheaper Internet
Now we gone ge he 4 more years
without Fraser and his progressive polices many of us will be dead in the water…I hope they grant him and OBE as its deserving! the facts
