ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Financial Investigations Unit (FIU) of The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF)is presently working with authorities in the United States to gather more evidence against a man charged locally for fraudulent use of a credit card.

According to a press release from the RVIPF, Mohamed Kamara, 35 years, born in the Republic of Sierra Leone but presently living in Trinidad, was remanded to prison after appearing before the Magistrate’s Court charged with obtaining services by deception as well as acquisition, possession or use of proceeds of criminal conduct. He pleaded not guilty.

Officers of the FIU took Kamara into custody after a manager of a local resort alerted Police that the same man had stayed at the hotel some months earlier in a room that was paid for through the unauthorized use of someone else’s credit card.

Kamara’s laptop computer which was seized revealed not only details of the credit card used in the former hotel transaction but several other names of U.S. citizens, credit card information, social security number and addresses.

As investigations continue, FIU expects more charges to be brought against the suspect.
