LIME: Cybercriminals targetting VI residents
LIME has issued a warning to its customers of the scam.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – LIME has been made aware that customers are receiving fraudulent calls from alleged representatives of Microsoft claiming that a customer’s computer has a virus and was sending messages to Microsoft, according to a press release from LIME.
The caller then offers to transfer the user to a technician to “fix” the problem.
The release added, “This is a scam with the end result being to infect the computer with malicious software. Fresh mango technologies has issued a Security Alert; please access this link for information on how to protect your computer from viruses: http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?llr=jj9za9cab&v=001WB-nvaGMG3-vnRZ3nmO66Snb8jZAN8eNdfLXEDhiy8ggTJt3GE0d7MT3pZPFjTMLzhH3VFbga9CSe7zqp8DbIkgp3cfbam0xq5TFpCOg9if7DZfaEw1KwA%3D%3D.”
To avoid this scam, please DO NOT engage in conversations of this nature and immediately terminate the call.
