MEYERS, Tortola, VI – A special relationship has been forged between service provider giant LIME and Enis Adams Primary school, with LIME officially adopting the school.
At a simply ceremony held at the hillside school today Tuesday June 14, 2011, LIME representatives handed over a cheque for $5,000 as part of an incentive that would assist the school financially and academically.
According to Patricia Adams, a LIME representative, LIME is very proud to join the corporate family in adopting schools.
“The initiative is a natural fit for one of LIME’s pillars that targets specifically community involvement which is education and youth. We have endeavoured to build a lasting relationship with the faculty, parents, and students to influence the next generation in a positive manner,” Ms. Adams told teachers, students and parents.
The foundation, she added, is to foster a wider participation involving all of LIME’s staff to encourage meaningful community development of which Enis Adams will be the primary beneficiary not only from a financial perspective.
“Our intention is to attend and support school sports, attend PTA meetings, school presentations, career day, mentoring, reading sessions just to name a few. We want to create fun filled engaging activities that bring out the best in everyone which would ignite good healthy relationships among teachers, parents and LIME staff,” the LIME’s representative disclosed. “Imagine some of the combined expertise that would be unleashed to tackle some of the problems that exist in school.”
She added that the Adopt A School programme is crucial since the ‘invaluable’ aspect of ‘one to one’ really impacts a student’s life.
“LIME is resolved to sharing our expertise, experiences and insights as we learn from the students and teachers of the Enis Admas Primary school,” Ms. Adams said.
Meanwhile, Minister for Education and Culture Andrew Fahie and 2nd District Representative Alvin Christopher both commended the service provider for getting on the bandwagon.
According to Minister Fahie, the After School programme is going beautifully and revealed that Enis Adams is one of the last schools to be adopted. He also credited the school’s principal Carleen Parsons, who is the chairman of the Adopt A School Committee, and her team for being aggressive in making sure all the public schools are adopted.
Meanwhile, Hon. Christopher noted that since the school is located on top of a hill, there is potential for it to excel to the highest in the Territory. He jokingly told the LIME’s representatives present that there is a school in Cane Garden Bay and one on Jost Van Dyke to be adopted.
Principal Parsons also made brief remarks.
Additionally, former teacher Delita Turnbull gave a brief history of the school, while students gave delightful presentations. Chairing the proceeding was Carren Mactavious.
The Enis Adams Primary School opened its doors in 1963 with 112 pioneer students. The school now has close to 200 students enrolled.
The Rotary Club has also adopted the school.
