ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Today Saturday June 4, 2011 the friendship between two Territories will be solidified, as the Virgin Islands (VI) Government welcomes family and friends from the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) to celebrate BVI/USVI Friendship Day under the theme “Celebrating the Music of the Virgin Islands”.

Premier Ralph T O’Neal, Governor Boyd McCleary and USVI Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. will deliver speeches at an interactive and cultural setting that will be held at the H Lavity Stoutt Community College.

Premier O’Neal earlier in the week told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the relationship between the VI and USVI is a special one and he often looks forward to opportunities when both territories come together and exchange dialogue whether in a formal or social setting, a press release from the Government Information Service had stated.

Governor de Jongh, Jr. along with senior public officers and invited guests will spend the day of coordinated activities in the Territory including a Governor’s welcome breakfast, the Speaker’s luncheon, and of course the cultural programme at the College’s auditorium from 10:30 a.m. to which the public is invited.

Friendship Day began in 1972 as an annual celebration to recognise and strengthen the traditional close ties between the two groups of Virgin Islands.
