ROADTOWN, Tortola, VI – As part of his official visits to the Sister Islands and to also assess damages caused by Hurricane Earl, His Excellency the Governor, Mr. William Boyd McCleary, CMG, CVO met with residents of Anegada at the Claudia Creque Educational Centre last week.

“It is a pleasure to be here on my first official visit to Anegada. I came by helicopter the other day to see the impact of the storm on the island. We saw a lot of water, docks which were destroyed, but we sensed that the people were okay. Coming around and talking to people today, I think it is clear that the people of the island are very resilient,” the Governor was quoted as saying in a GIS press release.

The Governor’s visit to Anegada was similar to his Jost Van Dyke and Virgin Gorda visits, where he met with public officers including fire, police and staff at the community clinic. He also toured the Emile Dunlop Community Centre, which serves as a hurricane shelter, the Anegada Power Plant and visited the Ramsar site, among other areas.

The Governor added, “I see the beach has been cleaned up, the debris out front have been moved and it is good to see that people are helping themselves after the storm. I know that the Premier has been talking to the owners of the docks today about the damage that has been done, and I think the Government is hoping to provide some assistance in rebuilding the docks.”

Governor McCleary was sworn in as the 15th Governor of the Territory on August 20.
