ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – While the number of cheques distributed are unknown, residents who were affected by the 2010 October floods caused by hurricanes and tropical storms began uplifting their compensation since early January 2011, VINO was reliably informed.

The distribution of the cheques was done through the Premier’s Office.

VINO made contact with the Ministry of Finance to ascertain the number of cheques cut and the range of the compensation, but was told that, “the Financial Secretary preferred not to make any comment”.

However, it is believed that the cheques ranged from $200 to $2,500.

In October 2010, Premier Ralph T O’Neal had said approximately $200,000 will be expended from the Disaster Relief Fund to assist residents affected by Hurricane Earl and the October 2010 floods.
