ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With a determination and will to come home with a win under the belt, the U17 BVI National Team dug deep into their reserves and showed tremendous spirit to overhaul Panama 81-79 in the match for 7th place at the Centro Baskets Championships in Puerto Rico yesterday, August 7, 2011.
Ahead from the first score until 2 minutes into the 4th quarter, the BVI conjured up a never say die performance and staged a fight back of epic proportions to match Panama point for point and rebound for rebound in the final few moments of regular time to send a pulsating match into overtime.
With just 7 seconds remaining, Ryan Alfred splashed a 3 pointer to level the scores at 66 each to keep the BVI alive. The shot capped off a final 35 seconds of play that had the crowd on the edge of their seats.
