Illinois-based DeVry says it bought the school to increase its presence in medical and health care education.
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten (AP) — The U.S. education company DeVry Inc. says it has bought a medical school in St. Maarten.
The company’s Thursday announcement says it paid $235 million for all assets of American University of the Caribbean.
The Downers Grove, Illinois-based DeVry says it bought the school to increase its presence in medical and health care education and expand its academic offerings at the postgraduate level.
The St. Maarten school opened in 1978 and has about 1,000 students. Its administrative offices are in Coral Gables, Florida.
The school is accredited and its students are eligible to sit for the United States Medical Licensing Examination and obtain residency and licensure throughout the United States upon graduation.
