New BVI Governor to be sworn in Friday
Boyd McCleary will be sworn in as Governor of the BVI on Friday.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – New Governor of the British Virgin Islands Boyd McCleary, CMG, CVO, will be officially sworn in on Friday 20 August at a ceremony at the House of Assembly.
The ceremony will be broadcast live on ZBVI 780 AM and CBN Channel 51 beginning at approximately 11:20 a.m.
Mr. McCleary, who will be arriving with his wife Jenny and one of his three daughters Emily, studied German Language and joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in 1975, during which time he has served in Germany, Korea, Turkey and Canada.
He was appointed Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (CVO) in 2004 and Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George (CMG) in 2010. He was awarded an honourary degree by the University of Nottingham in 2010.
The Governor will spend his first few weeks in office meeting senior officials, visiting the sister islands, meeting with heads of government departments, members of the law enforcement agencies and the media.
McCleary replaces David Pearey as Governor of the BVI.
