UPDATE – Trevelyan Vs El Real Madrid, and the horses are off
The VI's Champion horse Trevelyan will be in action today in St. Thomas.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola VI – Today, Sunday October 31, 2010, all roads will be leading to the Clinton E. Phipps racetrack on St. Thomas.
It will see the biggest race day for the year for inter- Virgin Islands horse racing where all will be waiting to see the first match-up between the Virgin Islands’ (VI) champion horse Trevelyan out of Tortola going up against the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) number one horse El Real Madrid out of St. Croix.
El Real Madrid was recruited by the “Crusions” just to attempt to beat Trevelyan who ran six races and won all six.
The BVI Horse Owner’s Association has taken down four other horses for the St. Thomas meet. They will be represented by, Lake Texoma, Air Lord, All Country and To Tell The Truth.
St. Croix’s big horse El Real Madrid, broke the six furlongs track record in a time of 1:09.4 earlier this month at the Randall ‘Doc’ James racetrack on St. Croix.
After making his USVI debut on September 26, 2010 on St. Croix in dominating fashion, El Real Madrid ran three races in August in eight days where he won two and came second in another.
At the races earlier this month at Ellis Thomas Downs, in Sea Cows Bay, Tortola, Trevelyan, demolished his competitors in a record time of 1:41:01 in the feature race to take home the $4,500 purse in front of excited and enthusiastic fans.
Trevelyan, however, remains the horse to beat, and is the favourite to win the big, exciting match-up between these two wonder race horses. However, racing commentators told VINO that fans should also keep their eyes on Bonnie Bonita out of St. Thomas and Lake Texoma out of Tortola.
VINO will be the first to bring the results to you with what is expected to be a photo finish, later today at the Clinton E. Phipps racetrack on St. Thomas.

Please! you want to put some money on it? Trevelyan coming back to Tola wid the goal trust me. That horse has heart
ayo stop dey I am wid the BVI horse all the way….. as we going wip dem Sunday
Ayo tola people so silly whenever ayo have a good horse dem always go to st. Thoams or st. Criox. And when they have a big horse over there dem never come up Tola to give we a big payday. Ayo crazy mehson. While its an exciting race why ayo allowing St. Thomas to get ah big pay day again? Why bossman?
yea we silly 4 real but wa i yo brokes bossman
I agree with CNN…this contiunes to happen and I know St. Thomas will be packed come Sunday with Tola people and their mothers
VINO THANKS FOR BEING THE ONLY SITE WITH SOME REAL SPORTS STORIES..AGAIN THIS PUT YOU ALL ABOVE THE REST…YOU WILL GET THERE JUST DO YOUR DO…BVI PRIDE ALL THE WAY GOOOOOOO TREVELYAN GO TREVELYAN MEK WE PEOPLE PROUD…..yea boyz Treveleyan
We need a bigger track in the BVI and yes St.Thomas will be making a big pay day, but with the caliber horse being brought to territory there is too much corners in our track in Tola. Therefore, the crucial will not come and risk losing the investment(horse) on our 4.5 furlong track. So upgrade and then we can be able to compete for the big events as well.
Oh please, the BVI has some of the best horses in the Virgin Islands and they race all the time on our 4 furlong track. The STX horse owners in particular constantly complain about the size of the track here (they call it a bull-ring) but I honestly believe it is just excuses, because they rarely make the trip even to St. Thomas. Be sure, if they have what they consider a big horse over there, they are usually present for any big race in STT such as the carnival races. On the regular, no such luck. It is much more frequently the case that STT horses travel to STX to compete that the other way around….that’s a matter of fact. So, IMO, if they hardly go to STT, good luck getting them to come to Tortola and I doubt that the track size is the reason, I think its more the excuse!
P.S. I’m reliably informed that the connections of El Real Madrid is minded to make a trip to Tortola. However, I sincerely doubt it will materialize if he is beaten Sunday.
I’m not happy the mare is in the race. Think its too much for her. The horses she’s going up against on Sunday are a class above the ones she beat to win the Governor’s Cup. I know she’s the Zenyatta of the VI and am just praying she’s not hurt in the race. Wishing her connections the very best even though as a BVIslander I’m with either of the BVI horses for the WIN!
trevylan get a real cut ass mon…wow!!!
