BREAKING NEWS, BREAKING NEWS – Neil Blyden tipped to be new BVITB Chairman
Neil Blyden is tipped to be the new BVITB Chairman, an announcement that is expected to be main officially next week.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – VINO through its many reliable sources has learnt that local businessman and media personality Neil Blyden has been tipped to become the new British Virgin Islands Tourist Board (BVITB) Chairman.
According to VINO sources, the Territory’s Premier and Tourism Minister, Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal OBE, is expected to make this announcement next week after Cabinet’s confirmation.
Press Secretary to the Premier, Devon Osborne who has not confirmed the name, told VINO that the Tourism Minister and ninth district representative will make an announcement late next week. The Premier is also expected to name the board’s other new members.
Besides former Chairman Myron Walwyn, the board has seen the resignation of former members Ajit George and Sharon Flax-Mars. However, the Premier has assured the Territory that the remaining Board members have been working assiduously to keep the TB’s agenda on track.
Mr. Walwyn, a local Attorney and Director of MVW International a locally owned and operated hospitality management agency, was appointed in January 2009.
However, after Walwyn’s resignation, Premier O’Neal stated that he was not surprised by the resignation and had no emotional feelings about it.
Premier O’Neal revealed that Walwyn had sent two resignation letters sometime between July and August of this year in which he indicated that the first letter was a mistake.
The Honourable Premier who was also a public officer told the House of Assembly, “When I left the Government service I sent in my resignation, it was effective immediately”.
Mr. Walwyn resignation became effective September 1, 2010 and he has since announced his candidacy for the 2011 Virgin Islands general elections with the opposition National Democratic Party (NDP), as an At-large candidate, a story first broken by this popular news site.
When VINO broke the story, Walwyn and the Leader of the NDP Dr. the Honourable D. Orlando Smith denied VINO’s claim and said that they had not told anyone in the media that Walwyn was a candidate or will be running with the NDP.
Walwyn who has campaigned for the ruling Virgin Islands Party and was a member of Honourable Julian Fraser’s third district committee also threatened to sue VINO over the story.
Recently, the Premier who is also the Minister of Finance, has pumped $300,000 into promoting the Territory for this tourists season.
When contacted by VINO, new designated Chairman Mr. Blyden said he had no comments.
However, many persons in the Tourism industry who spoke to VINO on condition to remain anonymous, welcomed the appointment as they believe Blyden’s public relations savvyness is what the TB need at this time. The Board has suffered from a lack of promotion which some say is due to inadequate funding.
Mr. Blyden is expected to bring experience to the Board, having served as its Chairman before, and a good network of contacts throughout the region and North America to help aggressively promote and return the VI to its competitive edge in the Tourism sector, a major revenue earner for the British Overseas Territory.

Finally Uncle Ralphie wake up smell we bush tea and got someone who will be true and do dey work. At least Neil aint going tek the TB business on the streets if he disagrees with Uncle…GO NEIL
Isn’t this the same man that was Chairman of the Tourist Board when the lady was thiefing all that money. Why do we always reward incompetence in this place.
HUSH YOUR LYING BACKSIDE… LOTS OF PEOPLE THIEF MONEY FROM A BANK, WHILE THE CURRENT BANK MANAGER WAZ DEY? MUST SHE RESIGN? NO! UNCLE RALPH VERY GOOD SELECTION YALL LET’S GET DEY BOARD MOVING
Chairman, you are full of it!!! Why has that case with the lady who was Financial Controller traversed for some 4 years now and she still getting paid half her salary from TB? Perhaps who is involved is the MESS is of greeat concern! Mr. Melee was there before and well know what was going on!!! When mout open story will jump out!
Yes they should resign when they were the ones who created the situation by putting the lady over everything so she don’t have to get approval of the director or anyone else. He is also responsible because as chairman he should have ensured that the accounts were regularly audited he did not. Those accounts were not audited a single time during his tenure, that is why the fraud was able to be perpetrated for so long.
The Board receives information as reported. Members don’t check accounts, auditors do. Gosh man!!!
He was the Director too! Dont forget that. So he is every much as responsible as the Maduro lady.
shut ur mouth!!!! anyone in Autority knows that an independent Auditing body has to look over the books every year!! where u from under the bush!!! its common sense….so stp being an idiot!!
Look how the thing came around. I keep telling people the world is a big circle. When Ralph and the VIP wanted to make you an appointment from 2007 the haters try and mess up your name with all kinds of rotten scandal. Then poor Ralphie was forced to put two people there Wawyln and Ford who he really did not want.
Both of them failed and see, it came right back in your lap my boy. I keep telling people there is a god in haven and he does not like ugly. What belongs to you, will come to you. They can only mess with your name for a while but in the end you will always get yours.
Congratulations Mr. Blyden and I for one believe from the beginning that you were the man for the job, as you have been there and done that! JEHOVAH AINT SLEEPING MR. MELEE…KEEP PARYING AND KEEP CLOSE TO THE FATHER
I am told that the Tourist board staffs are all very excited about this new development, very motivated….
After this long speech let’s see if anything changes at the TB!
Dont forget he was both Chairman and Director of the Tourist Board and millions of dollars were missing under his command.
Get ayo blasted facts straight. There waz one person who was both Chairman and Director dat waz NDP big head boy Russell H
Ralphie gone back to the dark ages with this guy…another sign of backwards always!!!!
A new Chairman is a good start but the goverment must fund the thing! And I hope this is not a Chairman like Myron if a pen moves he has to know, let Ms. Ward do her job as she is responsible for the day to day running of the organization.
Mr. O’Neal now that you have someone as chairman that you can finally trust and carry out your policies, please do me a favor and fund the damm board. Money is what is needed to make both Neil and Ms. Ward shine.
Please tell us if the loan from the Ports has been approved and how the money is to be spent. Mr. Melee please do not go make us get sued and leave us in anymore debt like a former Chairman!!!!!
Keep your hands clean Mr. Melee as the enemies/haters will be watching you like a hawk!!!!!
Yo, you sound ridiculous!! It had serious thiefing in the TB before and probably still going on!!
Lawdy Ralph gone backwards wid tis boyz..neil aint got ah ting to bring….when we get in next year we putting back myron or rusell at dey board so neil enjoy dey couple months deman….
setta your old sick foolish self. Blyden should have been the chairman from after the elections. so stop coming on here chatting nonsense but who dead and who is not! You all NDP could sit all day in your headquaters and blog but it will not change the fact that VIP going right back in office….now smoke that..HAHAHA
Agreed
Instead of spending money on retaining walls and all kinds of unnecessary consultants and drag racing I hope that Mr. Blyden can convince the Premier to pour some money into the sector as money is the issue. It appears that Mr. Myron was not able to have the Primer’s ear. The board needs to be funded properly then I will know that they are serious about the industry. Anything short of that is just more Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah.
whadever….next!
at last we got someone trustworthy and loyal and i could assure you he wont sabotage the country because he is a true born tolian
“TELL THEM PETER CRUMBLE” For sure there is no debate as to where Neil is from…we know he from right here unlike Myron he now trying to lie saying he born here when infact he is born in Antigua. But belongers have rights to he is a lawyer and should know this
Excellent choice Mr. Premier. It’s sad you did not take my advise and do this from 2007. But better late than never. Mr. Blyden we will keep you in our prayers
Mellee mehson you have to work fast as VIP on dey count down to losing…
U SAY!
What does Myron running or not running for politics have to do with Neil Blyden appointment?
