Althea Scatliffe Primary School benefit from collaborative community initiative
Alicia Modeste-Stephens interacting with the kids
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- In a joint community event hosted by LIME, Citco and Ground Works Tuesday, July 6, 2011, 230 Althea Scatliffe Primary School students participated in an afternoon of childhood games of “old games” played before there were video games.
While the staff members introduced the “old games”, the children showed them actually how to play them! From hoola hoops, to rope skipping, to hand and ring games and even an obstacle course for soccer, the companies interacted with the kids in an afternoon filled with lots of excitement and fun, a press release from LIME stated.
More than 150 members of staff from the three companies interacted with the children in a way to highlight the three company’s commitment to the BVI community and to invest in the future of the youth within the territory. The task was to make it possible to get to know the children and teachers. The mission: provide meaningful ways to make this happen. Citco, Ground Works and LIME wants to help build our community by creating lasting relationships and to help the youths of the BVI realize their potential.
And what is more meaningful than encouraging the children to think about the ecological environment and what it means to them and the future of the country; to engage their minds by providing a means for them to express themselves – than by hosting a poetry contest in which to serve as an outlet for their expressions. To compliment the contest, trees and small plants were placed on the playground and in the front of the school so that the children could watch them grow and gain further insight about how the ecological system really works to support life in the BVI.
Dekoya Hodge and Jheanique Guishard were presented with the winning trophies for having submitted the winning poetry entries. All other student submitting poems were presented with a certificate. Citco and LIME donated the trees and Ground Works staff transplanted the saplings with soil that would provide the necessary nutrients for them to grow.
The joint efforts of Ground Works, Citco and LIME, three leading and respected companies in the BVI, fulfilled a unique role and place in the hearts of the community it serves and touched the lives of many people in the BVI in a positive manner.
