AG Aziz bids VI farewell
Aziz was acting AG for over a year.
ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Acting Attorney General Baba Aziz, who departs the Virgin Islands (VI) next week after spending 10 and half years in the Attorney General’s (AG) Office, said the VI Government has been magnanimous to him during his tenure.
Speaking last evening in the House of Assembly (HOA) Aziz, a Ghanaian national, also thanked the people of the VI for allowing him to serve in the various capacities in Office.
“It has been a wonderful 10 and half years. The VI has become a home away from home,” he added.
The veteran lawyer is pleased to observe there is democracy in the VI, rule of law and respect for fundamental human rights.
“I value those seriously because people don’t know the value of democracy, human rights, freedom unless they have lived under dictatorship. I have been in my student days a champion against dictatorship and that cost me a lot of years away from university with some of my colleges,” he disclosed to members of the House.
Albeit, he will be miles away Aziz stated through the global network he will be able to follow the jurisprudence in the VI and the Caribbean.
His staff at the AG’s Chambers also came in for high praises with regards to their hard work and dedication. “I am very sure if it was not for their hard work, I would not have been able to contribute my quota to the VI, and I wish all of them the best in the New Year,” the outgoing AG added.
He replaced Kathleen D.K. Quartey who demitted office in June 2010.
Aziz was appointed to the AG’s post following Kathleen Quartey departure on June 24, 2010.
He holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from The American University in Washington, D.C., a professional certificate of law from the Ghana School of Law and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Ghana.
He was called to the Ghana Bar in 1988, and his work experience includes Research Attorney & Junior Counsel, Basansang Law Chambers, The Gambia, West Africa, Legal Counsel and subsequently Legal Manager of the Gambia Assets Management & Recovery Corporation.
Aziz joined the Attorney General’s Chambers in June 2001 and was appointed on contract in the post of Senior Crown Counsel. He was subsequently promoted to the post of Principal Crown Counsel in 2007.
He acted as Solicitor General from March 8 to April 8, 2010 and as Attorney General on several short stints during the absence of the former Attorney General, Ms. Quartey while she was on leave or official duties overseas.
As the Acting AG, Aziz was responsible for serving as the chief legal advisor to the Government as established by the Constitution and managing the administration and activities of the Attorney General’s Chambers.

Like who? And who will substitute for them when they have ‘conflicts’ of family ties and otherwise? Do you realize the DPP can’t function for that very reason? Everybody has an excuse why they can’t work! That’s my cousin, sister, in-law, used to work for, neighbor, side-thing, a whole lot of nonsense!!!
