ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Horse racing in the greater Virgin Islands is alive and well and as the three islands, Tortola, St. Thomas and St. Croix, get ready for the much anticipated Triple Crown which is the big prize races amongst the three islands, the Virgin Islands (Tortola) will not be left behind.
Today Sunday December 11, eight of the Virgin Islands (VI) finest and most competitive race horses will be competing to St. Thomas, in the USVI, to compete at the Clinton E. Phipps Racing Park.
Representing the VI and Ellis Thomas Downs from the Boys Stable is East End Tap, who has been on rest since St. Thomas carnival races earlier this year. The other horses include Broken Home from L&B Stables along with Glorious Memory, the best mare between St. Thomas and Tortola and Really Uptown, the best sprinter in the Virgin Islands.
St. Thomas will not have today’s races without the Top Priority Stables’- Nat’s MY kiss, a mare making her racing debut as well as speed horse Square One.
Blood in the Sand own by Derwin Williams and Gafflione own by Alex Lake will also be live at the Clinton E. Phipps Racing Park today.

8 of Tortola’s finest race horses will travel to St. Thomas for this Sundays 11th December 2011 races, the last race card at Clinton E. Phipps Racing Park for this year
According to a spokesperson for the Clinton E. Phipps Racing Park speaking exclusively to Virgin Islands News Online, he confirmed that today’s races will be St. Thomas last race card for the year.
All VI horses are expected to perform extremely well.
This race serves as a warm up for the VI big Boxing Day races schedule for Monday December 26, 2011 at Tortola’s famous Ellis Thomas Downs.
Triple Crown on January 15, 2012 at Ellis Thomas Downs
Just in case you had forgotten, the VI and USVI will be making horse racing history with its first Triple Crown. Tortola’s famous Ellis Thomas Downs will be where the first races will be run.
Representatives from all three racetracks (St. Thomas, Tortola, St. Croix) met earlier this year to discuss the event which is scheduled for January 15, 2012.
The much anticipated Triple Crown will be a race where horses compete on all three islands for a big prize similar to that of the Triple Crown in the United States.
The Triple Crown will place the greater Virgin Islands on the map, as it will be in line with the American Triple Crown run each year. This is the Kentucky Derby run over 1-1/4 miles at Churchill Downs in Louisville, followed by the Preakness Stakes, run over 1-3/16 miles at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland and the Belmont Stakes, run over 1-1/2 miles at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York.
Most of the developed countries where horse racing is a major part of the culture has a Triple Crown such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Germany, Canada, Puerto Rico, Japan, Hong Kong and many Latin American countries to name a few.
Virgin Islands News Online will be the exclusive source for all your Triple Crown up-dates.

I thought they had all stopped this nonsense with these fleabags. I heard that St.Thomas are going to take our lead and turn their horse field into a state of the art cricket stadium. They are trying to outdo us in the BVI with the facility that we are soon to start building. But ours will be world class – i cant wait till its finished.
