Deputy Governor Mrs. Inez Archibald

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – The following is a message from Deputy Governor Inez Archibald, issued by the Department of Disaster Management.

This is V. Inez Archibald, Deputy Governor, with a message for all public officers on the approach of Hurricane Earl to the Territory.

All public officers are informed that Government offices will be closed on Monday, 30th August. I repeat all Government offices will be closed on Monday, 30th August.

Only essential workers are required to report to work on Monday, 30th August, and emergency services must remain on standby.

Based on my appeal by radio on Sunday to all permanent secretaries and their Heads of Department to secure their offices, and equipment, I am pleased that all such offices and equipment have been secured.  I would at this time like to thank all those public officers who ensured that all government offices and property are secured and protected.

I ask that all public officers continue to monitor the path of Hurricane Earl.  Reports indicate that Hurricane Earl is likely to be upgraded to a Category 2 or 3 hurricane by the time it reaches the Territory, so I am encouraging all public officers to remain indoors, to keep listening to our local radio stations, and to monitor the Department of Disaster Management’s website for further updates until the all-clear signal has been given to venture outdoors.

Let us continue to pray to Almighty God that we will be spared from any destruction which may be caused by Hurricane Earl.

Ladies and gentlemen thank you for listening.
