ROADTOWN, Tortola, VI – With a number of activities planned for this year’s observance of Caribbean Wellness Day in various communities, this year’s event is expected to be a successful one.

Focal point for the coordination of the Territory-wide activities Ms. Ivy George of the Ministry of Health and Social Development said committees have been established in several districts and communities throughout the Territory.

Ms. George said she is encouraged by the level of participation that the local commemoration of Caribbean Wellness Day continues to receive. “This shows that our messages of prevention and the importance of maintaining active lifestyles have been embraced by the community”.

Planning committees have been created in Districts two, three, four, five, seven and eight. Separate planning committees have also been established for Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dkye. “Heart Healthy Walks have been planned for most districts and communities, along with an array of other events that are related to physical fitness,” Miss George noted.

She further encouraged residents to contact the Ministry of Health and Social Development on telephone number 468-3701 extension 2168 for full details of Caribbean Wellness Day activities in their respective communities along with information about the respective district or community coordinators.

“I am also encouraging the various district and community coordinating committees to capture good quality photographs of highlights of their respective activities for subsequent sharing with local and regional agencies,” she said.

Ms. George also encouraged residents to view the locally produced educational video documentary Dialysis in the Virgin Islands, which is scheduled to be aired this Saturday, September 11 at 7:45 p.m. on JTV Channel 55 as a highlight of the Territory’s commemoration of this year’s Caribbean Wellness Day.
