Youths walk away with holiday gift and smiles during cruise visit

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- According to a Government Information Service (GIS) press release, more than 100 children in the Territory walked away with broad smiles on Sunday after benefiting from a gift-giving holiday party coordinated by the Premier’s Office in collaboration with the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA), a not-for-profit organisation comprising 14 member cruise lines serving Florida, the Caribbean and Latin America, which aims to build cooperative relationships with Caribbean destinat

This joint effort coined “Annual FCCA Holiday Gift Project” is in its third year and is geared toward reaching out to under-privileged and special needs children in partner destinations throughout the region. The gifts came via one of FCCA’s member lines, Royal Caribbean International’s Serenade, which was docked at the cruise ship pier. The event was held at Maria’s by the Sea.

Speaking on behalf of the Premier of the Virgin Islands, Minister for Education and Culture and youth development Honourable Myron V. Walwyn said, “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with the FCCA. This cooperative effort continues to be mutually beneficial. We applaud you for this initiative because you show by this that you value our relationship.”

The youth minister added, “You have brought gifts from far and our children, Government and people of the Virgin Islands do appreciate this very kind gesture. Your thoughtfulness to spread Christmas cheer with gift-giving must be commended because it says that you also see the value in investing in the lives of our citizens.”

Children receiving gifts came from several organisations including the Rainbow Children’s Home, Eslyn Richez Learning Centre, Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP), primary schools and social develop programmes, among others.
